Hair Transplant

Hair Transplant

The choice of hair restoration treatment is determined by the amount of hair loss and the preference of the patient. Hair transplants involve harvesting and moving follicular unit grafts of one to four hairs from the donor area to the balding area of the scalp. The methods of hair transplant are:

  • Strip – FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)
  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
  • Scalp reduction surgery
  • Scalp expansion surgery
  • Flap surgery

The type of hair restoration surgery performed on a patient largely depends on the amount of available patient donor hair. Patients should also have a mature hairline in place before considering a transplant. Patients need to be in general good health and have realistic expectations about their results.

The cost of a hair restoration procedure varies according to a variety of factors including the type of surgery, total number of grafts used by the surgeon, the fee per graft and any facility fees. In general, the cost for FUE and FUT is in the range of $9000-$16,000. Scalp reduction and expansion surgery can cost anywhere from $5000-$10,000 while flap surgery is in the $7000-$17,000 range.

The results from FUE and FUT transplants should be permanent and last a lifetime. The transplanted hairs will take root and grow just like their original location on the body and will appear natural to the general public. Permanent results can also be expected from scalp reduction and expansion as well as flap surgery.
