Facial plastic surgery before holidays

The holidays are here, and it is time for presents, reunions with family and friends, and even visits to the plastic surgeon. Patients who want to attend holiday events with a more youthful and refreshed look to their face often visit plastic surgeons at this time of year to gain a rejuvenated look for holiday parties. Keep reading to learn why the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a busy time filled with patients who want to look their best for the holidays.

Facial Cosmetic Surgery – Holidays are a Practical Time for Procedures

While the holidays are a time filled with selfies, group photos, and company party photo booths, the holiday season is also a practical time for patients to have a cosmetic surgery procedure. Many companies either close for part of the holiday season or some patients have vacation days they need to use before the end of the year, and they decide to use these days having a cosmetic treatment. The time off work allows patients an easier opportunity to recover away from the eyes of others while not having to miss days of paid work.

Facial Cosmetic Surgery – Which Facial Procedures are Popular During the Holidays?

Patients who want to put their best face forward have a number of treatments they can choose from to rejuvenate the look of their face.

If a person has a good amount of time to take off for recovery, they might decide to have a facelift which can take a few weeks for a full recovery time. A facelift involves tightening the muscles and tissues and also removing and sculpting fat located in the face and neck. Once the changes are made to the treated area, the facial skin is re-draped over the newly created contours of the face. Excess facial skin will also be removed to help give the face an improved contour. The incision for a traditional facelift begins at the temples in the hairline and then it continues downwards so it goes around the front of the ears. The incision ends behind the ears in the lower section of the scalp. The results of a facelift are long-lasting.

For a person who does not want to have an invasive surgical procedure like a facelift, they can have fillers placed in an area of the body where volume has been lost. Fillers are injected under the skin of the patient using a thin needle. There is no downtime involved with the procedure and it can be performed in minutes. Fillers can be injected only once or as a series of injections depending on the desired amount of filler that is needed to gain the desired results. Patients will need to have regular follow-up treatments to maintain the results. There is no downtime involved with the treatment and the results appear quickly so patients can have the procedure not long before they are scheduled to attend a party or holiday event for work or fun.

Botox is performed in a comparable manner to fillers, but the treatment is performed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and between the eyes. There is no downtime necessary after the treatment but patients will need to have regular follow-up treatments in the areas where Botox is injected into the skin or muscles. The number of injections depends on the desired results and the size of the treatment area.

A nonsurgical facelift is custom designed to address the needs of the individual patient. There are a variety of treatment options that can be performed during a nonsurgical facelift including:

  • Two of the most popular options are discussed above and they include fillers to restore volume in areas such as the cheeks, under the eyes, and the temples. Botox is able to reduce wrinkles and fine lines in the forehead along with crow’s feet, and frown lines.
  • Fat transfer does involve a surgical component even though the actual injecting of the fat is nonsurgical. Fat is removed from a part of the body (that is not the face) via liposuction so it can be cleaned and processed by the doctor. Then, the fat is injected into the face to restore volume that has been lost due to the aging process.
  • There are also some treatment options that do not require the use of a needle. Chemical peels are a facial resurfacing technique that involves the placement of a chemical solution on the skin to smooth its texture and improve the look of the skin by removing outer skin layers that have been damaged. Ultherapy is an ultrasound energy treatment that targets the deep, functional layers of the skin so they become firmer in feel and tighter in appearance. Microdermabrasion is able to remove dead and dry skin located in the outer skin layer to reveal skin that is fresh and healthy thanks to a device that sprays tiny crystals onto the surface of the skin, so the top layer is exfoliated, and a vacuum removes the crystals and dead skin cells.

Patients who are interested in facial cosmetic surgery for the holidays should contact a doctor who can walk them through the procedure and also tell the person what is involved in the procedure and recovery process. The patient can then make a final decision once they have enough information about the investment of time and money and if they will recover in time to attend a holiday party.
