Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is a procedure that adds volume in areas of the body where it is lacking. The surgeon removes fat from areas such as the abdomen and thighs. The fat is purified and injected into the area where the additional volume is desired. The fat can be placed in any number of areas including the cheeks, the lips, breasts and the corner of the eyes to enhance the appearance of the area and reduce signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. It can also be used to lessen irregularities in the skin.

Good candidates have enough available fat to be transferred in order to enhance an area of the body. Candidates need to be in overall good health and not have any medical issues that impact wound healing.

The cost depends on the area being treated, the amount of fat that is removed and transferred, the medical complexity of the procedure, the experience and training of the surgeon and medical facility fees. The cost ranges from $5000-$10,000.

Following the procedure, there might be some redness and swelling in both the donor and treated areas. The treated area may feel tender to the touch for a few days. Not all of the transplanted fat cells will survive and a 25%-30% loss is expected. The final results are seen in about 3 months and the results are considered to be permanent.
