Intense Pulsed Light - IPL

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) provides skin rejuvenation by reducing or eliminating issues such as wrinkles, sun damage, redness, blood vessels and stretch marks. The treatment uses a broad-spectrum light that pulses like a powerful camera flash. The light is directed onto the skin and is absorbed by its targeted area. The doctor moves the IPL device over the areas to be treated in brief passes. A gel or cold air cooling device can be used to keep the skin cool during the treatment.

Ideal candidate includes people with a lighter skin tone that have red targets such as blood vessels, general redness and sun damage. Patients with spider veins, tissue buildup and a desire to rejuvenate skin that is aged or damaged are also good candidates.

The cost of intense pulsed light is anywhere from $300-$400 per treatment. The cost can be lower if patients buy multiple treatments at one time since multiple treatments are often needed to achieve the desired results. The final price also depends on the skill level of the doctor and the area of the country where the treatment is performed.

There is little to no downtime necessary after an IPL treatment. There will be some swelling and redness that will be visible to others before the final results are achieved. The areas treated by IPL will see results that last for one or two years. Patients will need to have follow-up treatments to maintain the results and have healthy and young looking skin.
