Ozempic Face - Weight Loss Leads to Plastic Surgery?

See how Ozempic affects the face

There has been a lot of talk in the press recently about the diabetes drug known as Ozempic. While it has become a drug of choice to help people lose weight, it also appears to have the side effect of giving the face a look that is aged in appearance. Let’s take a look at the side effect known as “Ozempic face” and how patients are trying to combat it with cosmetic procedures. Let’s get it started with the latest video from Cosmetic Town:

Ozempic Face – What is It?

The diabetes drug Ozempic, along with the FDA-approved anti-obesity medicine Wegovy which has a similar formulation, have proven to be quite popular for those who are looking to quickly lose weight. In fact, the demand for them has been so high that the FDA says both of the drugs are now listed as being in short supply. Even with the weight loss success enjoyed by the public, some users are dealing with a side effect that is called “Ozempic face.” This side effect causes the skin on the face to gain a look that is aged and gaunt due to the rapid loss of fat.

Ozempic Face – How to Reverse its Effects

The appearance of an aged look has people visiting both cosmetic surgeons and doctors to try and regain a youthful look to the face. Some of the weight is lost in the middle of the face which contains tissues that contribute to a youthful appearance to the face. One of the most commonly impacted features on the face includes drooping cheeks that also cause an appearance of wrinkles and indentions at the temples. In addition, the area under the eyes can start to look sunken and the skin that is located under the chin can start to gain a saggy look.

In order to counteract the appearance of Ozempic face, many cosmetic surgeons use injections of hyaluronic fillers, such as Restylane, to replace some of the volume that has been lost in the face. They might even use a secondary filler, such as Sculptra which is a poly-L-lactic acid, to stimulate the production of collagen and also provide additional structure to the treated area.

Ozempic Face – How to Gain a Fuller Look to the Face

One of the first steps doctors ask patients to do during their consultation appointment is to bring in photos of their appearance before their weight loss. The photos will be viewed so the doctor can get a visual on how the fat in the face was naturally distributed. The loss of fat in the center area of the cheeks can give a person a more significant amount of aging. There is also a chance that the temples can be impacted through long-term use of Ozempic and even make people look older than they should thanks to a “skeleton eye” look.

In addition to fillers that can help add volume back into the face, some patients deicide to have a facelift to lift and tighten facial tissues. The issue of sagging skin can also be addressed with fat transfer where fat is removed, via liposuction, from one area of the body. The removed fat is then processed and purified before it is injected into the targeted areas of the face to help provide a more youthful and rejuvenated look.

There have also been reports of patients who have Botox injection on a regular basis. They have Botox to help prevent or reduce the effects of aging in addition to some of the other treatments discussed earlier in this article.

Ozempic Face – Patients Speak Out

When it comes to the side effect of “Ozempic face,” some of the people who have experienced the condition recently spoke about their experience with a news outlet. One person with “Ozempic face” said, “I’ve noticed loose skin under the chin and neck area. Other than that, my cheeks have thinned out. But before, I felt like you couldn’t even see my eyes because all you could see were my cheeks. It’s definitely a lot to get used to my new body, but I’m enjoying it.”

Another Ozempic user said she has lost fifty pounds since starting to use the drug a year ago. In order to address her sagging skin, she has been having filler injections in her chin and cheeks as well as under her eyes. In addition, she did four microneedling sessions in order to stimulate the production of collagen through the creation of punctures in the skin using tiny needles.

In general, patients seem to enjoy the results they are gaining when it comes to their weight loss, but they are not big fans of the sagging skin and aged look that seems to come with the use of Ozempic for weight loss. As one person with an older appearance to the face told a reporter, “It’s a double-edged sword. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too.”
