Ozempic Face - Weight Loss Leads to Plastic Surgery?

There has been a lot of talk in the press recently about the diabetes drug known as Ozempic. While it has become a drug of choice to help people lose weight, it also appears to have the side effect of giving the face a look that is aged in appearance. The diabetes drug Ozempic, along with the FDA-approved anti-obesity medicine Wegovy which has a similar formulation, have proven to be quite popular for those who are looking to quickly lose weight. In fact, the demand for them has been so high that the FDA says both of the drugs are now listed as being in short supply. Even with the weight loss success enjoyed by the public, some users are dealing with a side effect that is called “Ozempic face.” This side effect causes the skin on the face to gain a look that is aged and gaunt due to the rapid loss of fat.

Ozempic Face – How to Reverse its Effects

The appearance of an aged look has people visiting both cosmetic surgeons and doctors to try and regain a youthful look to the face. Some of the weight is lost in the middle of the face which contains tissues that contribute to a youthful appearance to the face. One of the most commonly impacted features on the face includes drooping cheeks that also cause an appearance of wrinkles and indentions at the temples. The photos will be viewed so the doctor can get a visual on how the fat in the face was naturally distributed. The loss of fat in the center area of the cheeks can give a person a more significant amount of aging. There is also a chance that the temples can be impacted through long-term use of Ozempic and even make people look older than they should thanks to a “skeleton eye” look.

In addition to fillers that can help add volume back into the face, some patients deicide to have a facelift to lift and tighten facial tissues. The issue of sagging skin can also be addressed with fat transfer where fat is removed, via liposuction, from one area of the body. The removed fat is then processed and purified before it is injected into the targeted areas of the face to help provide a more youthful and rejuvenated look.
