Next Big Thing - Fat Transfer to Pubic Area

Pubic area fat transfer

It seems like there is always a “Next Big Thing” waiting to take the place of the current hot trend in plastic surgery. For the past few years (or more), the hottest trend in plastic surgery has been the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) where fat is transferred into the buttocks in order to give the butt an increased amount of volume and an improved contour. While this procedure is still popular, there is also a growing desire among patients to have the fat that is removed via liposuction placed elsewhere in the body. Let’s take an in-depth look at one of the latest sections of the body where fat is being placed….The pubic area!

Fat Transfer to the Pubic Area – Details Revealed

The transfer of fat to the pubic area of the body, AKA labia major fat grafting or labia augmentation, is one of the growing trends in the field of cosmetic surgery. This procedure is actually quite similar to the Brazilian butt lift in that the labia majora is injected with stubborn and hard to remove fat that has been suctioned out of the body using liposuction. However, unlike a BBL, the labia majora does not require the placement of as much fat in order to alter or enhance its appearance. The injection of fat from elsewhere on the body works to give the labia majora tissue an appearance that is fuller and smoother. The amount of injections that need to be performed depends on the current shape of the labia majora. If the area is largely deflated in appearance, the patient might need to have more than one treatment.

Vaginal Rejuvenation – Reasons for its Popularity

The fat transfer procedure involving the labia majora is just one example of the growing vaginal rejuvenation trend. In general, cosmetic surgery is performed in order to enhance and rejuvenate the portion of the body that is being treated by the cosmetic surgeon. As time passed and more treatment options were developed and approved, female patients started to realize that the vagina was also an area of the body that could be rejuvenated through cosmetic surgery.

While there are many ideas about what makes the vagina have an ideal appearance, there are still some women who do not feel that their private area actually matches any of those ideas. It should come as no surprise that the size and shape of the vulva is different for each person. There are some women who have a labia minora that sticks out further than the labia majora. On the other hand, there are females with a labia majora that is fuller and larger than the labia minora. Patients of all ages have the right to make a change in the look of their vulva and this means many women are taking advantage of the opportunity to transfer fat to the pubic area.

Fat Transfer to the Pubic Area – Combining it With Other Treatments

In addition to enjoying the results provided by fat grating in the pubic area, there are also patients who are having additional vaginal rejuvenation procedures performed at the same time. These additional treatments include procedures such as radiofrequency tightening, laser energy treatments and a labiaplasty that reduces the size of the labia minora while the transfer of fat enhances the appearance of the labia majora. Patients can also temporarily refresh the appearance of the vagina using hyaluronic acid fillers options such as Juvéderm and Restylane.

Fat Transfer to the Pubic Area – Who is an Ideal Candidate?

In general, ideal candidates for fat transfer to the pubic area include a person who is not happy with the current volume of the labia majora and wants to increase its volume. Good candidates also include someone who is unhappy with the size of their labia majora tissue and they have enough excess fat on the body to transfer to the pubic area. A patient might also have a desire to address any discomfort they are experiencing from having a labia that is thin or saggy.

Pubic Area Fat Transfer – Risks and Recovery Information

The first thing to know about the treatment is that it is a minimally invasive procedure so there are not many risks involved with the treatment. Possible side effects include swelling, redness, bruising, asymmetrical results, lumps, infection, bumps, numbness in the treated area, and blood clots.

There is not much in the way of recovery time as it only takes about a week to recover after fat grafting to the labia majora. Any bruising and swelling will normally resolve within this time period. Patients can use a cool compress to help them remain comfortable during the recovery period. While many patents are able to return to work after a few days, all patients will need to avoid both strenuous exercise and sexual activity for around six weeks.

Patients who have additional questions about the treatment are advised to schedule a consultation appointment with a doctor who is experienced performing the procedure and can determine if it is the right choice for those wanting to undergo this vaginal rejuvenation treatment.
