Woman has Eyelash Transplant to Replace Missing Eyelashes

A 30-year-old woman from London recently had a long hair FUE transplant to address the issue of her missing eyelashes. Itinder Kaur had her eyelashes ripped out of her right eyelid after falling during an evening out with her friends five years ago. Kaur lost the lashes in the center area of her right eye after her friends accidently dragged her face across gravel when she fell to the ground.

Long Hair FUE Eyelash Hair Transplant to Teach Others

During a recent conference attended by board-certified hair restoration surgeons from all over the world, Kaur received 16 new eyelashes in the area negatively impacted by the incident with the gravel. The hair transplant surgery performed at the Crown Clinic in Manchester, used hair from the back of her scalp to fill-in the gaps in the eyelashes. The transplanted hair was curled and trimmed so they would naturally blend in with her existing eyelash hair.

Footage from the long hair FUE restoration procedure, performed by Dr. Asim Shahmalak and Dr. Parsa Mohebi using the Trivellini System, was shown at the hair restoration conference to dozens of surgeons. The procedure was performed at no charge to Kaur since she allowed footage from the surgery to be shown at the conference. The footage was broadcast to allow medical professionals the opportunity to learn more about this intricate procedure.

Cosmetic Town News spoke to Dr. Parsa Mohebi, founder of Parsa Mohebi Hair Restoration in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and San Francisco, about the difficulty of performing a long hair FUE transplant on the eyelashes as opposed to a traditional hair restoration procedure. Dr. Mohebi shared, “Eyelash transplant is a very meticulous procedure that should only be done by experts with enough experience performing the surgery. Besides the vicinity of the procedure to the eyes, the surgeon has to be very careful about the position alignment and curvature of each individual hair follicle.”

Long Hair FUE Eyelash Hair Transplant Explained

Eyelash hair transplants have been in existence for 20 years as the first one was performed in Brazil in 1999. They were developed to help burn victims, as well as victims of other accidents, with lashes that suffered permanent damage. Eyelash transplants have expanded to include patients wanting the surgery for aesthetic reasons such as naturally thin eyelashes or damage to the eyelashes caused by using false eyelashes that can rip out the natural follicles. In addition, eyelash hair transplant can treat patients that have lost their hair due to chemotherapy or trichotillomania which causes an uncontrollable urge to rip out the hair.

The procedure can only be performed on the upper eyelid because the hair on the lower eyelid grows in a straight pattern. This can make it too difficult to trim and curl the hair on the lower eyelid. In general, the donor hair from the body is taken from the back of the head. The hair in this area tends to be longer which makes it easier to thread through the upper eyelid. The single follicular grafts are threaded with a curved needle and implanted into the targeted area in the eyelash. The total amount of transplanted hair depends on the density the hair transplant surgeon is trying to achieve with the final results. In general, it can take about six months for the new eyelash hair to grow to its full length.

London Woman Speaks Out About her Long Hair FUE Transplant

When asked about the eyelash hair transplant surgery, Kaur told The Daily Mail, “I am thrilled to have my eyelashes back. It will be a few months before they grow back properly but then I will have lovely lashes right across my upper eyelid again.” She went on to add, “I cannot thank the doctors enough and I hope lots of new surgeons will start carrying out the procedure so more people can benefit.”

Kaur tried to get the damage to her eyelash treated after she was rushed to the hospital following the accident. Medical personnel placed stitches in her eyelid but they fell out after a few days so she needed further surgery to address the issue.

One of the main reasons Kaur lost the hair in her eyelash was because of trauma to the eyelid. Blood stopped flowing to the central area which resulted in a loss of about 25\\% of the eyelash cover in her right eye. Kaur told The Daily Mail it was not easy for her to easily accept her new look. “Before the accident, I had always had gorgeous eyelashes and people used to say I had beautiful eyes.” She found it quite upsetting to have a sudden and unexpected gap in her eyelashes. Kaur would try to cover the injured area with eyeliner but she was always aware of the issue. She did not want to wear false eyelashes so Kaur is thrilled to have a permanent solution to the problem.

Best Doctors for Long Hair FUE Eyelash Hair Transplant

Dr. Mohebi says patients need to exercise caution when choosing a board-certified doctor to perform lomg hair FUE eyelash transplant using the Trivellini System. “Eyelash hair transplant is not a very common procedure. Only a handful of hair transplant surgeons are capable of performing it so patients need to make sure their doctor of choice is experienced in performing the surgery.” He went on to add “eyelash hair transplant is ideal for male and female patients. There is no particular sex that responds better to this procedure as it can help any patient lacking eyelash hair due to factors such as scarring, trauma or congenital causes.”
