Fat

While liposuction removes unwanted fat, other fat removal procedures provide the same outcome with less risks and recovery time. They rely on natural elimination of the damaged fat cells. Laser lipolysis, also known as SculpSure, removes fat deposits using light-based technology on areas such as the abdomen, thighs, flanks and back. Vanquish uses radiofrequency and a low-level laser to remove fat from the abdominal area. CoolSculpting reduces the temperature of the targeted fat cells which causes them to crystalize and destroy on the abdomen, thighs, flanks and chin. Kybella treats moderate to severe fat often referred to as a “double chin”.

A good candidate for fat removal procedures includes:

  • Patients near their ideal weight who wish to reduce small pockets of fat
  • A patient looking for a non-surgical procedure for fat reduction
  • Patients without excess skin and those with good skin elasticity

The cost varies according to the type of procedure, number of treatments and the size of the area being treated. The cost of laser, ultrasonic or radiofrequency lipolysis is $2500 to $4500. CoolSculpting can cost $1000-$1250 per hour for the largest applicator which is typically used for areas such as the abdomen. A smaller applicator will cost around $700-$850 per hour and each treatment is approximately an hour long. However, the thighs will need 2 hours to treat both thighs. Kybella usually requires three injections, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, at a cost of about $4500-$5500 for the three injections.

The results from noninvasive fat removal procedures are subtle but can be progressively observed, over two to four months, as the body naturally eliminates the damaged cells through the urine. There are many advantages to these fat removal procedures including less risks and little to no downtime. The results are considered permanent since the eliminated fat cells can never come back. The patient will need to uphold a proper diet and exercise routine to maintain the results. Otherwise, the neighboring fat cells can expand in size and void the results.
