Plastic surgery is an equal opportunity surgical experience with both men and women enjoying the opportunity to alter or enhance their appearance as well as improve the functionality of the targeted area of the body. Social media has helped to spread the awareness of male plastic surgery with male patients taking to platforms such as TikTok to share their experiences and highlight popular procedures. Let’s look at the procedures male plastic surgery patients are talking about on TikTok. Our examination of this topic starts with the latest from Cosmetic Town TV:
The use of Botox by male patients is often referred to as “Brotox” and it is growing in popularity among younger male patients who fall in the millennial and Gen Z categories. This trend is not much of a surprise as the patients in these categories tend to focus on self-improvement along with self-care and “glow-ups.” Millennials and Gen Z patients want to decrease possible signs of aging and often use Botox as a preventive measure to avoid the formation of wrinkles in the forehead as well as frown lines that can start to be visible as a person ages.
The popularity of Botox for men is highlighted by statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. According to the ASPS, more than 265,000 men had Botox procedures as recently as 2020 to address wrinkles in their face. The popularity of Botox use by males has also increased as the negative image surrounding the use of Botox has lessened in the public eye. Men now realize that minimally invasive treatments that require little downtime after the procedure are able to enhance their self-image as well as increase their level of confidence in their appearance.
Male patients enjoy using Botox to reduce or eliminate the appearance of forehead wrinkles that are either visible horizontally on the forehead or within the glabellas (AKA the area of skin between the eyebrows that is located above the nose). Male Botox patients are taking to TikTok to show the difference the treatment makes in minimizing the appearance of forehead creases and providing a smoother look to the skin.
There is also a growing use of Botox among male patients to address the appearance of crow’s feet which are the wrinkles that start to appear on the outer corner of the eyes due to a loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin. Crow’s feet can also appear because of the muscle contractions that occur when a person is making facial expressions. Botox can address dynamic crow’s feet that are temporary and disappear when the facial expression of a person changes and static crow’s feet which are always visible and have a permanent appearance. Crow’s feet are especially apparent when a person smiles. Botox is injected directly into the area around the crow’s feet and the muscles around the eyes start to relax after a few days. The appearance of the crow’s feet starts to lessen as the Botox continues to take effect in the area of the injections.
Male patients who do not want to augment the look of their lips with lip fillers can have a lip flip using Botox. The doctor injects Botox into the Cupid’s bow, which is located in the middle of the upper lip, into the corners of the mouth. The Botox injection allows the muscles to relax while also making the part of the upper lip inside the mouth “flip” upwards and outwards to give the lip a fuller and rejuvenated appearance.
While all of the above treatments give male patients a more youthful and refreshed look, they do need to know that the results of Botox only last four to six months so they will need to have additional treatments to maintain the results.
Instead of having an invasive rhinoplasty surgery, AKA a nose job, many male patients on TikTok are showing off the results of their noninvasive rhinoplasty treatment. The procedure begins with the doctor numbing the top of the nose in order to inject filler into specific areas on the nose. Some of the popular fillers choices include Radiesse and Voluma. The injection of fillers is performed to provide the amount of correction to the nose desired by the patient. The filler is able to eliminate humps on the nose, give the nose a straighter look, fill-in depressions, and alter the angle of the nose tip.
The results of a “liquid nose job” depend on the amount of filler used and the type of filler used by the doctor. The results of Radiesse can last ten to twelve months while the results of Voluma can last up to two years. The patient will need to have additional treatments in order to maintain the results.
An eye lift, AKA blepharoplasty, is performed to reduce the look of bags that are located under the eyes as well as remove any excess skin that is impairing the field of vision of the patient. Eyelid surgery can be performed as upper blepharoplasty or lower blepharoplasty and it provides the patient with a younger look to the eyes as well as a refreshed look to the treated area. Male eye lift patients will need to rest their eyes during the first week of recovery while they wait for the swelling and redness to resolve. The final results can last anywhere from seven to fifteen years.
As the year continues, there will likely be new popular procedures that are featured by male plastic surgery patients on TikTok. When they begin to be featured, Cosmetic Town News will spotlight which procedures have grown in popularity.
