In the past year or two, it seems like brow lifts are one of the latest “IT looks” among celebrities. The stars that have undergone brow lifts include Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid, Camila Cabello and Lily Aldridge. While celebrities have always been known for undergoing various types of cosmetic surgery, the growing popularity of brow lifts is still considered to be a new trend. In addition, the celebrity brow lift trend appears to be leaning towards Botox brow lifts as the preferred procedure.

Celebrities and Botox Brow Lifts

In an interview earlier this year with the website Vox.com, Dr. Dara Liotta, a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon from New York City, said “Maybe half of my patients will come in and say, ‘I want a Botox brow lift,’ which is something that never happened even literally six months ago. People didn’t know it was a thing.” Dr. Liotta says she performs about five to ten Botox brow lifts on a daily basis.

While there are multiple brow lift options currently available, a Botox brow lift is not an invasive procedure. It does not leave any type of scar and it does not require the patient to have anesthesia at the start of the treatment.

Even though celebrities like Kylie Jenner have not admitted to having a Botox brow lift, there are many celebrity watchers and cosmetic surgeons that suspect celebrities are turning to this treatment option because it is not an invasive procedure.

Brow Lift History

In the past, a brow lift was known as an invasive surgery. The traditional brow lift involves the creation of an incision that runs over the head from one ear to another ear. The scar is created so the doctor can pull the forehead upwards. It is somewhat similar to a facelift but it is only focused on the brow of the patient. Some patients were afraid to have this cosmetic procedure because there is a chance of hair loss in front of the scar as well as permanent nerve damage.

As brow lift technology continued to evolve and improve, the 1990s saw more plastic surgeons start to perform endoscopic brow lifts. This technique requires the creation of two to four small incisions behind the hairline of the patient in order to elevate the appearance of the brow. There is still a chance of scarring with this brow lift technique.

The early 2000s saw the growth in popularity of injectables such as facial fillers and lip fillers. In 2002, the FDA approved the use of Botox for cosmetic use on patients. It didn’t take long after this FDA approval for Botox to become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for patients looking to turn back the clock and enjoy a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Botox Brow Lift – Why it is so Popular

Botox brow lift became a popular choice among patients that did not want to undergo an invasive surgery. It was also an easy choice for those that were not opposed to the idea of having Botox injected into their faces.

In general, the treatment only takes a few minutes and does not require anesthesia unlike a traditional brow lift procedure. The results are not permanent and follow-up treatments will be needed in order to maintain the results. The fact that the results are not permanent is actually a selling point for patients that are unsure if they will like the results. They are able to see the changes made to their appearance by lifting the brow without having permanent surgical results. The results of Botox will usually last anywhere from four to six months.

Botox – How it is viewed by Younger and Older Patients

Many doctors are seeing more millennial patients making the decision to have cosmetic treatments such as Botox and fillers. Older patients generally want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. On the other hand, younger patients tend to view Botox as an accessory used to make a temporary change in their appearance.

The rise of social media platforms such as Instagram is often given credit for the increase in the interest of treatments such as Botox. In addition, patients want to make a change in the appearance of their brows because of how they are viewed by others in person. When people are talking to each other, they tend to look each other in the eye so they appear to be interested and engaged in the conversation. A brow that faces upward tends to make the eyes look more open and focused on the other person. A brow that is lower makes a person look tired or not interested in a conversation.

Botox Brow Lift Backlash

Celebrities like Bella Hadid have features that others desire and they turn to treatments such as Botox brow lift in an attempt to get the look of their favorite celebrity. A brow lift, where the brow looks like it is extending all the way up into the hairline, is very popular thanks to the appearance of celebrities like Bella Hadid.  It is a look that provides a framing of the eyes and very spacious eyelids.

There are some people that are not fans of Botox brow lifts, and brow lifts in general, because they say it pushes a beauty standard that many women cannot achieve. They also claim that multiple people having a Botox brow lift gives all of them the same look to their appearance. While Botox brow lift is popular right now, it is not known if this look will still be popular in the future. It remains to be seen if this is simply a passing fad or the start of a look that will be popular many years in the future.
