Botox Brow Lift - What is it?

Learn what a botox brow lift is

While Botox and a brow lift are popular cosmetic procedures on their own, some patients decide to treat the frown lines located between their eyebrows by having a Botox brow lift. The procedure also raises the height of the eyebrows thanks to Botox injections. Let’s examine the Botox brow lift process to learn how it works as well as who is a good candidate for the treatment.

Botox Brow Lift – How Does it Work?

Once the Botox (botulinum toxin type A) injections are made in the targeted area between the eyebrows of the patient, the shots are able to make the desired changes by relaxing the muscles that are underlying in the treated area. The relaxation of the muscles allows the skin to gain a smoother look. In turn, this allows the muscles in the forehead to elevate the newly relaxed muscles between the brows for an elevated look along with a more open and alert look to the eyes. In addition, the doctor can place injections of Botox at the ends of the eyebrows if the patient wants to relax those muscles as well so the forehead muscles in that area can also be raised.

No matter where the injections are placed or how much Botox is used by the doctor, the amount of lift that is provided will also depend on the age of the patient and the amount of active tone in the muscles that is able to elevate the muscles that have been relaxed. In addition, the treatment can be performed in a matter of minutes by the doctor.

Botox Brow Lift – Why Do Patients Want the Treatment?

Why Patients Want Botox Brow LiftA Botox brow lift is a popular choice as it enables the doctor to give a smoother look to deep wrinkles (AKA glabellar frown lines) that are present in the treated area without the need for an invasive surgery. This is different from a traditional brow lift where the surgeon has to create incisions in the targeted area of the brows in order to remove excess skin to gain the desired results.

An ideal patient should be at least age eighteen (or older) and both male and female patients can benefit from a Botox brow lift if they have frown lines that range from moderate to severe in appearance. A Botox brow lift is also a good choice for someone with skin that is sagging significantly enough that it can be corrected by lifting the muscles in the targeted area.

Finally, an ideal patient includes a person who is willing to pay out of pocket for the treatment as Botox injections are not normally covered by insurance.

Botox Brow Lift – Results, Recovery and Risks Reviewed

When it comes to the results of a Botox brow lift, the results should start to appear within a week of having the treatment. The results will continue to improve to the point that significant results will start to become visible about one month after the injections are placed between the brows.

There is little to no recovery period necessary after receiving Botox injections. Patients can resume their normal activities after they leave the office of the doctor, but it is recommended to avoid working out for two to three hours after the injections.

The final results will not be permanent as Botox injections do not last longer than there to four months. Additional injections will need to be placed by the doctor in order to maintain the results.

Botox injections are generally considered to be safe for the majority of patients but there are sone risks of side effects such as redness, bruising, and swelling. These conditions will resolve on their own in about a week. There is also a chance for some numbness, soreness, and headaches after the injections but any of these conditions should also resolve on their own.

In order to avoid or minimize any of these risks, patients should not have Botox injections performed at a nonmedical facility or by someone who is not properly trained and experienced in placing Botox injections in the body.

Patients should also ask the doctor any questions they have in advance as well as voice any concerns they might have before they undergo a Botox brow lift procedure. The doctor will be able to share “before and after” photos of actual patients treated in the past and also answer any questions and address any concerns so the patient will be educated and confident about having the procedure, The doctor will also advise the patient about the likely length of the results so the person will have a better idea about when they need to schedule a follow-up treatment. Having said that, a good sign regarding the need for a follow-up treatment is when the reduced wrinkles start to become visible once again between the eyebrows.
