Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck removes excess tissue from the lower abdominal skin and tightens the muscle through a short incision just above the pubic region. The incision length depends on the amount of skin to be removed. If necessary, liposuction can help sculpt the tummy into the desired shape. After excess fat has been removed and the abdominal muscles have been tightened, the surgeon will stretch the skin downward, cutting away excess tissue and stitching the remaining skin into place. A mini tummy tuck helps achieve a slimmer silhouette as well as remove stretch marks and mildly lax muscles below the belly button. The procedure generally takes 1-2 hours to complete.

Women who have small amounts of sagging or wrinkling skin on their lower abdomen are ideal candidates for a mini tummy tuck. Women who are not comfortable with their post-pregnancy figure and want to restore their skin to its pre-pregnancy state are also good candidates. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be healthy as well as comfortable knowing the abdomen will be left with a scar. People with excessive abdominal fat or muscle separation extending from the pelvis to the sternum are better suited to undergo a full tummy tuck.

The average cost of a mini tummy tuck ranges from $4500 to $7000 depending on several factors such as the geographic location of the surgery, the experience of the surgeon, any facility or anesthesia fees and if any additional procedures are performed at the same time as the mini tummy tuck.

The risks of a mini tummy tuck include bleeding, fluid accumulation, scars, discoloration of the skin, numbness and recurrence of loose skin. Patients can return to their normal daily activities in 1-2 weeks but it may take 4-6 weeks to have enough energy for strenuous activities. Patients may be asked to keep a flexed position for two weeks if the mini tummy tuck involves muscle tightening. The results of a mini tummy tuck should be permanent as the patient maintains a stable weight as excessive weight loss and gain can impact the results.
