Knifeless Necklift: Non-Surgical Solution for an Aging Neck

Posted May 26, 2015

There comes a certain point in the lives of many when they look at their reflection and don’t like what they see in the mirror. Aging is a part of life that can’t be avoided.  As a person ages, the more wrinkles they develop as the skin starts to sag. While a traditional neck lift might seem like a good option to restore firmness and tighter skin, many patients elect not to proceed with surgery due to a fear of “going under the knife”. These patients have a new non-surgical option – a knifeless neck lift that helps them achieve a younger looking appearance without having to use traditional invasive techniques.

Knifeless Neck Lift Procedure

The neck is often neglected by many during their beauty routine. Of all the parts of the upper body, the neck often receives the least attention. Most people don't realize that an aging neck can negatively impact your look. It detracts from the beauty you worked so hard on over the years. An aging neck can add years to your overall appearance. A knifeless neck lift also known as "fractora fractional resurfacing" is a non-surgical procedure that revitalizes the neck. This advanced fractional resurfacing treatment uses bipolar radiofrequency to help improve fine or deep lines, texture, pigment irregularities and redness to the neck and decolletage or chest. Cell renewal is further enhanced by a series of three treatments to improve skin quality, texture and tone. With a knifeless neck lift, people can achieve a younger looking neck without surgery while enjoying no downtime and minimal pain.

Fiber optic therapy is the key to having a successful knifeless neck lift.  The laser gently heats the dermis and inner layer of the skin through microscopic entry points created by the laser.  The heating of the skin area allows the surgeon to shape and sculpt the target area to his liking. The entry points are very small so there are no real worries about issues with scarring and a numbing agent is used to ensure comfort.

The surgeon puts a fiber optic wire in each entry point in order to heat the dermis, AKA the lower or inner layer of the main layers of cells that make up the skin. The wire is also helpful in allowing the surgeon to melt the fat in the area that needs to be tightened.  The less fat there is in the surgery portion of the face, the easier it is for a surgeon to tighten and shape the neck lift area.

Knifeless Neck Lift Advantages

There are multiple advantages to have a knifeless neck lift procedure:

  • Tighter Skin
  • No knife also means no scars and a quicker recovery time
  • More natural looking final results after surgery.
  • Improvements in the broadest range of symptoms of aging skin including fine lines, deep lines, texture, pigment irregularities, blood vessels and redness
  • The cosmetic surgeon is able to vary the depth of ablation, coagulation and heating
  • Minimal downtime
  • Varied parameters which can be adjusted for lighter or more intensive fractional resurfacing

Knifeless Neck Lift Recovery and Results

Following a knifeless neck lift, patients will experience redness and some “dots and spots” or slight roughness on the skin. These usually dissipate within three days though it might take longer than that in some people. Typically, the skin surface feels slightly rough for approximately a week as the smaller dots gradually heal over. Swelling may occur after the procedure and it is normal to feel an itching or stinging sensation for a day or two after the treatment. This itching can be improved with the application of cold packs and calming balms.

A knifeless neck lift is relatively safe but, like all cosmetic procedures, there could be complications. A few of the possible complications are:

  • Prolonged redness of the skin
  • Increased pigmentation (hyperpigmentation)
  • Decreased pigmentation (hypopigmentation)
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Contrast with adjacent areas
  • Demarcation lines along the edges of the treated area

The final results will be visible after three to six months with patients enjoying a rejuvenated and youthful look that is also long lasting.

Is Knifeless Neck Lift Worth it

The benefits of a knifeless neck lift seem to outweigh having a neck lift done in the traditional surgical manner. This neck lift technique doesn’t include the use of knives, anesthesia or injections which are all associated with a traditional neck lift surgery. The process lasts anywhere from 30-45 minutes and is normally done in an outpatient center. The results are similar to a traditional neck lift with a shorter recovery time because it is a less invasive procedure.  The benefits, and final results, of having a knifeless neck lift seem to make this neck lift method the better and easier choice when it comes to having a neck lift procedure. Patients should visit a board-certified doctor to determine if knifeless neck lift is the best choice to achieve their desired final results when it comes to the appearance of the neck.
