Male Cosmetic Surgery on the Rise

Posted May 12, 2015

Today’s society no longer looks at cosmetic plastic surgery to be a purely female pursuit. Wealthy celebrities and fashion concerned males alike are opting to go under the knife to get that perfect jaw line or skin tight abs.  According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), cosmetic procedures for men have increased by more than 106% since 1997. A graph from their website shows that male breast reduction, facelifts, botox, and microdermabrasion have been on a steep rise since 2011. Cosmetic surgery techniques have advanced so much that some operations will only require 4 to 6 weeks of recovery and will cost significantly less than it did 10 years ago.

Under the Knife

So let’s say that you’re an aesthetically concerned male who has finally decided to get the perfect body or facial contour of your dreams. What are some of your options? Well there are general cosmetic procedures like botox and hair restoration, but there’s also penile enlargement, calf augmentation, abdominal etching and even male butt augmentation available to those who are really open minded. Which one would you choose? Personally, I would opt in for something less invasive, like a closed rhinoplasty, for my very first plastic surgery.

Give It a Second Look

But don’t pick up the phone to schedule an appointment just yet! You might want give it some serious planning and thought first. Just look at popular celebrities like Burt Reynolds, “Funny” man Carrot Top or Mickey Rourke, who all look like they’ve been through the gauntlet and back a few too many times.  But for some bodybuilders and athletes that take performance enhancers, getting a male breast reduction might not be an option. In which case I always recommend making sure your cosmetic surgeon is an accredited member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc.
