Breast Lift with Implants

A mastopexy, or breast lift with breast augmentation lifts sagging breasts while also increasing their cup size. There are several breast lift techniques that vary according to the incision pattern used. Implants can be silicone, saline or gummy bear. Incisions are carefully created and, through the incisions, extra tissue is trimmed away to reshape the underlying tissue to create a natural and proportionate shape. If the areola has become stretched, this area is reshaped and tissues from the perimeter will be removed. Then, the nipple and areola are lifted to place them higher up on the breasts. After the implants are in place, the incisions are closed.

Ideal breast lift candidates are women seeking a remedy for drooping breasts. It is important to have realistic expectations about the results of breast lift surgery. Although a breast lift can be performed on any size breasts, women with smaller breasts typically enjoy the greatest benefits. The candidates should be over the age of 18, have breasts with stretched skin and less volume than in the past, physically healthy and emotionally stable. Women that are pregnant or breastfeeding are not ideal candidates.

The typical cost for breast implants ranges from $3000 - $6000 for saline implants and $4500-$9000 for silicone implants. This price range doesn't include anesthesia, operating room fees, any necessary medical tests, the surgeon’s level of expertise and the geographic location of the procedure.

Breast lift recovery depends on the extent of the surgery and the patient's natural healing process. The patient should expect to take at least a week off work. During this time, the patient should avoid bending, straining and lifting. The patient will need to wear compression garments and bandages for about a week. Be sure to keep the bandages clean and change any drainage tubes. The surgeon will remove the tubes a few days after surgery. In general, breast implants last about 10-15 years.
