It’s well established that the majority of celebrities undergo plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures as a way to keep themselves looking as good as possible. However, it’s not often that we find celebrities who are willing to be open and honest about the work they’ve had done. So when someone from the silver screen decides to go public about their procedures, we welcome them and their stories with open arms.

Amy Schumer LiposuctionAmy Schumer is one of the most recent celebrities to speak publicly and candidly about her cosmetic surgery. Known for her down-to-earth personality and relatable comedy, Schumer has always been vocal about the pressures women face in society to live up to the unrealistic beauty standards set forth by Hollywood. Notorious for being an open book, it was no surprise that she felt compelled to go public earlier this year about her weight loss and what she went through to achieve it.

Schumer’s Personal Decision To Get Liposuction

Back in January of 2022, Schumer posted a photo of herself on the beach wearing a black one-piece swimsuit. In the caption, she went on to give details of her recent medical procedures, one of which included liposuction to support her with her weight loss.

She elaborated that while she never thought she would be the type of person to have plastic surgery, she had reached the point where she was tired of looking at herself in the mirror. Diet and exercise often have their limitations, and so for many people like Schumer, turning to plastic surgery is a viable option as a way to help them have a body that they’re happier with.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure specifically designed to remove excess fat from the body, and it’s one of the most popular cosmetic procedures on the market. Liposuction is typically used to remove the extra fat from the mid region of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, and buttocks. However, it can also be used to address excess fat in the arms, neck, and back as well.

What To Expect With Liposuction

Unlike some cosmetic procedures that require very little downtime, liposuction is one of the more invasive procedures and the recovery period can be painful. It’s important to take this into consideration when trying to decide if liposuction is right for you.

The recovery period is fairly substantial, and it can take 4-6 weeks before you feel back to normal. Some potential side effects to be aware of in the weeks following the procedure include numbness, bruising, swelling, changes in skin sensation, and even changes in skin color. And while most of these side effects will subside by week 6, the swelling can linger even a bit longer. However, once the healing process is complete, the vast majority of patients are happy with the procedure and the way it changes their body for the better.

Make The Decision That’s Best For You

If you’re someone who’s been battling with weight loss for quite some time, and no amount of healthy eating or exercise seem to be enough, speak with your doctor about the possibility of having a liposuction procedure to help you reach your goals. There’s no shame in looking to outside medical help to achieve a result that may otherwise not be possible.

If you do decide to go through with liposuction or any other cosmetic procedure, take a page from Amy Schumer’s book and make sure you’re doing it because it’s something you want to do to feel better about yourself… Not because of any unrealistic beauty standards that Hollywood has laid out for us.
