Top requests received by surgeons reopening their offices

Medical offices across the country have reopened to patients looking forward to getting the cosmetic procedure of their choice after weeks or months of not being able to undergo cosmetic surgery due to COVID-19 restrictions. There are certain procedures that patients are requesting now that they can visit the office of a doctor. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently conducted a survey of its members to discover the cosmetic procedures patients want to undergo when they first visit the office of a doctor that is open again. Take a look below at the top patient requests plastic surgeons have received since reopening after COVID-19 lockdowns.

Top Requested Cosmetic Surgery Procedures According to ASPS Survey

According to the recent survey conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top procedures desired by patients following Covid-19 lockdowns include:

Reasons for Top Cosmetic Surgery Requests according to American Society of Plastic Surgeons

Patients that have been unable to visit doctors for cosmetic surgery because of COVID-19 lockdowns have a number of reasons behind the cosmetic treatments they want to undergo. The ASPS reported that many patients were anxious to visit their doctor of choice to get Botox or fillers to maintain the results of previous nonsurgical in-office skincare treatments that provide facial rejuvenation by eliminating the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. The appearance of the face grew in importance to many people during quarantine as more business meetings are being conducted online using video conferencing tools such as Zoom. Patients are now looking at their face on a computer screen on a daily basis and many of them have started to grow concerned about the appearance of their features and the impact of the aging process on their face. They are aware of the changes in the face and patients are looking forward to turning back the clock by eliminating signs of aging thanks to cosmetic treatments such as Botox and fillers.

According to some of the plastic surgeons surveyed by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the growth in popularity of video conferencing calls has also created a growth in the pressure many feel to look their best when they are on the video camera. Patients that have issues such as hanging skin on the neck and double chins are finding them to be quite prominent in their appearance on the video calls. In addition, some patients have corners of the mouth that have a “hanging appearance” and this can cause a person to look angry or unhappy when they are looking down at the camera.

In addition, one of the main concerns on their mind is the safety and sterility of the office of the doctor. Patients are making sure the doctors they visit have offices that are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations related to screening and testing for COVID-19 as well as social distancing. In addition, patients are asking about the sterilization protocols in place in the surgery center of the office.

Invasive Surgical Procedures are growing in Popularity According to the ASPS Survey

The number of requests for invasive surgical procedures has also grown as patients look to plastic surgery options such as rhinoplasty, facelift and neck lift to rejuvenate their appearance and make desired changes to the shape and appearance of these areas of the body. Even with the reopening of medical offices, the public is still being asked to stay at home whenever possible which gives patients more time to stay home and recover from surgery with less people being able to view any bruising or swelling that occurs after the procedure.

Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and CoolSculpting are being requested to help eliminate stubborn areas of fat on the body and provide a more contoured appearance to the treated area.  The Mommy Makeover is another body contouring option that is popular as moms that are working from home might have more downtime to recover from the surgery that helps them get their pre-pregnancy appearance back by making the abdomen tighter and enhancing the shape of the breasts.

Eyelid surgery is growing in popularity as patients do not like the heavy or tired appearance of their eyes that they see during video conference calls.

Finally, rhinoplasty has grown in popularity thanks to the need to wear masks in public. The ability to hide the nose behind a mask that is designed to protect the public from the coronavirus also provides the opportunity to hide the changes made to the nose during the rhinoplasty surgery.

Patients Look to Make a Change with Cosmetic Surgery

Thanks to the need to quarantine for multiple months, people had more time to look in the mirror and view their appearance. While some people like their current look, there are others that see areas of the body that could use some improvement and they are turning to cosmetic surgery to make the desired changes. This trend does not look to be slowing down anytime soon as the COVID-19 pandemic continues across America, and around the world, which means even more time indoors for people to look in the mirror and also analyze their appearance on video conference calls.
