Plastic Surgery In The Modeling World

Posted May 26, 2016

A good majority of the public looks to models as the standard of beauty in our society. Models walking down the runway are normally thin, beautiful and flawless. Were they born with natural good looks or did some models have some help achieving their beautiful appearance?

While some people make a decision to have plastic surgery based on the desire to make a change in their appearance, plastic surgery is more of a business decision when it comes to the modeling world. A tweak here and a nip there could help a female model land a contract with a top designer or agency. Having said that, some unusual features on a model, such as the mole on Cindy Crawford, are sometimes sought after and become a trademark look for a model.

In general, models in the field of fashion are held to very high standards that don’t match the daily appearance of the average person. Supermodels are expected to have few curves and a very slender body. Many female models are looked upon favorably if they have an androgynous face with the right amount of makeup and styling.

These models won’t visit a plastic surgeon looking for any sort of enhancement such as breast implants. They will visit a doctor for body contouring procedures such as liposuction to keep their body in “model friendly” shape. Their looks are how they make a living so many models pick surgeries that are minimally invasive and have a short recovery period and downtime.

Facial surgery is very popular among models and one of the more popular procedures is rhinoplasty. It’s been speculated that supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen and Tyra Banks have undergone rhinoplasty in the past. Chin implants help give models a more defined profile for their photos. Sexier lips can be attained via fat transfer while the cheekbones can be enhanced through the use of fillers. Even something as simple as microdermabrasion or facials at a spa can help models keep their skin looking younger.

As mentioned above, some supermodels are well known for their unique, in the modeling world, features such as the mole of Cindy Crawford, a gap in the teeth like Alek Wek and freckles on the face of Cintia Dicker. While not considered classic beauty features, these models are getting long-term contracts and bookings by being true to their looks.

It’s a fact that plastic surgery is a big part of the modeling industry and the looks of high fashion models. However, it is up to each individual model whether or not they want to undergo any kind of surgery. Plastic surgery is a very personal decision that should not be made lightly or on the spur of the moment. The decision to have plastic surgery should be made because the model wants to have a procedure and not due to the request of a manger or a modeling agency. Models, and any others considering plastic surgery, should make the final decision based on their own desire to make what they perceive to be a positive change in their appearance.
