PicoSure

PicoSure is a laser treatment that uses short bursts of energy to target all three layers of photodamaged tissue, epidermal pigment, mid-dermal wrinkles and deep dermal laxity. It activates the cells to form new collagen and elastin without causing damage to the skin. The body’s healing process expels the damaged skin. The PicoSure handpiece is gently moved over the targeted area in a smooth continuous motion. Ultra-fast pulses of light energy are emitted to the skin's surface to cause collagen formation and the rejuvenation and tightening of the skin. This continues for 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated.

Ideal candidates are healthy individuals suffering from unwanted pigmentation, acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. It is also suitable for tattoo removal. PicoSure is safe for all skin types. Patients with active skin infections on the area to be treated, have used Accutane in the past year or have open sores on the treatment area are not good candidates.

The typical cost for PicoSure ranges from $500- $1500.The final depends on the size of the area being treated, fees charged by the hospitality or facility, the surgeon’s level of expertise and the geographic location of the procedure.

The aim of the procedure is to rejuvenate the skin and restore radiance. There is little to no downtime needed after the procedure. There could be whitening of the scarred area that will flake off, temporary swelling, and redness or darkening of the pigment area. Most of these will resolve within a couple of hours. Patients should avoid sun exposure and wear a sunscreen with a SPF of 50 on the treated area. For optimal results, a series of 3-4 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart is needed. The final results can last for 2-3 years.
