Laser Treatment

Laser treatments are used for skin resurfacing, laser vein treatment, tattoo removal and other cosmetic surgery treatments. The main difference between the types of lasers is the wavelength used to target the skin. Different lasers can be combined to achieve the desired results. Fine lines and wrinkles are treated by a CO2 or Erbium laser while skin tightening can be achieved by a CO2 laser. Vascular lesions are treated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) lasers and tattoos can be removed using a CO2 or Nd:YAG laser. The laser is focused on the targeted area and ablative lasers vaporize the top layers of the skin while non-ablative lasers go deep into the skin.

Ideal candidates are healthy individuals who want to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne, freckles, mild to moderate folds and sun spots or they want to remove a tattoo on the skin. The procedure is also suitable for patients who want to improve the tone and texture of the skin. Patients who have open sores on the area of treatment, have a history of keloid formation (scarring), bleeding disorders, or have a history of extreme allergies are not good candidates for the treatment.

The typical cost ranges from $500-$2100 per treatment. The final cost depends on the type of laser used, the number of treatments undergone, the severity of the condition being treated, surgical facility fees, the surgeon’s level of expertise and the geographic location of the procedure.

Minimal downtime is needed after a laser treatment. Patients may experience mild redness, swelling and a sensation similar to sunburn. For the best results, a series of treatments might be needed. Initial results can usually be seen shortly after the procedure and they continue to improve as time passes. The final results are long-lasting but are subject to the natural aging of the body. The final results of tattoo removal are permanent but any original scarring will remain.
