Popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the new year

The New Year is a time for reflection as well as a time to make plans for changes in the appearance of a person. Many people decide to adopt a “New Year New You” attitude and achieve the look they desire by having cosmetic surgery. As 2021 begins, it is time to take a look at the cosmetic surgery procedures that are predicted to be some of the most popular treatments for patients of all ages.

Cosmetic Surgery Procedure Predictions for 2021

  • Liquid Facelift – Instead of having a surgical facelift with a long recovery time, patients are turning to a liquid facelift to achieve their desired facial rejuvenation. A liquid facelift uses fillers to rejuvenate the skin in the targeted facial areas. In addition, Botox is often used to help relax the facial muscles. A liquid facelift adds volume to the face; addresses drooping skin and gives the face a smoother and youthful look.
  • Injectables – There is a new generation of hyaluronic acid fillers on the way and they are called Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA). This version of injectables is described as being the most similar to the hyaluronic acid naturally created by the human body. This product is designed to treat facial wrinkles on areas as varied as the cheeks and the lips while providing a more natural appearance than previous hyaluronic acid fillers. There is also a new neurotoxin, known as DAXI, which is scheduled to be available this year. It is being reported that DAXI is supposed to last for six months and will reduce wrinkles and give patients smoother looking skin.
  • Eyelid Rejuvenation – The need to wear a face mask as protection against coronavirus is expected to continue throughout 2021. This has caused many people to focus on the appearance of the upper half of their face including the eyes. The increase in eyelid surgery, AKA blepharoplasty, and other cosmetic procedures for the eyes are expected to remain popular as patients want the area of the face that can be viewed by others to remain youthful in appearance. Common examples include:
  1. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat that is located on the upper eyelids.
  2. Many patients have lower eyelid skin excision in order to remove a limited amount of excess skin on the lower eyelid. This treatment is performed just below the lash lime and works to smooth the skin in the treated area.
  • Nonsurgical Nose Job – While the nose is covered by a face mask when people are outdoors or standing six feet apart from others, the nose is visible on Zoom calls for work and social occasions. People that are staring at their nose on a computer screen might want to make a change in its appearance without having to undergo an invasive surgical procedure. Look for an increase in the number of noninvasive rhinoplasty procedures being performed during 2021. Patients enjoy this treatment because it can alter and enhance the appearance of the nose without it being obvious that a rhinoplasty procedure was performed. The surgeon numbs the tip of the nose and then injects filler into certain areas on the nose. The filler works to eliminate humps, give the nose a straighter look, fill-in any depressions and even change the angle of the tip of the nose.
  • Fat Transfer – There is some fat on the body that is hard to remove or eliminate no matter how hard a person exercises. Fat transfer removes stubborn fat from one area of the body, via liposuction, and then injects it into another area of the body that is lacking in volume. In addition to augmenting and improving the look of the area of the body where the fat is injected, the part of the body where the fat was removed will enjoy a better contour and shape.
  • Body Sculpting Procedures – The ability to go to the gym has stopped for most people as gyms have closed in many parts of the country to help stop the spread of coronavirus. This means that many former “gym rats” are turning to body sculpting procedures to get, or maintain, the sculpted and contoured look they desire to the body. Experts predict more patients will have procedures such as CoolSculpting to get rid of fat cells and gain a more contoured look to the treated area of the body.

Cosmetic Surgery in the Time of Coronavirus

Cosmetic surgery has actually been growing in popularity even with the spread of coronavirus. If patients are worried about having a procedure for safety reasons, they should call the office of the doctor and ask about their COVID-19 safety measures and precautions. In addition, patients should know that doctors are taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of their patients and this includes virtual consultations. If someone is nervous about visiting a medical office, the doctor can chat with the patient via Zoom or Skype and discuss their desired results and let the person know more about the safety measure put into place for patients.
