Jessica Simpson - Plastic Surgery Secrets Revealed

Jessica Simpson is as well-known for her body as she is for her singing voice. The appearance of her body, and her weight loss and weight gains over the years, have kept the singer in the news and the public eye. In her memoir, “Open Book”, she discussed struggling with her body image and also revealed that she had two tummy tuck surgeries after her first two pregnancies.

Jessica Simpson – Reasons for a Tummy Tuck

After Simpson lost weight after having her first two kids in 2012 and 2013, she told her fans that she regained the pre-baby look of her body by doing a Weight Watchers plan. However, Jessica had also made plans to have a partial tummy tuck as a gift to herself for her 35th birthday. 

Simpson recently said that the surgery “wasn’t for weight loss. I weighed 107 pounds when I planned the surgery. I wanted to get rid of the stretch marks and loose skin” that appeared on her body after the children were born. She was also ashamed of the way her body looked and she wouldn’t let her husband look if she wasn’t wearing a t-shirt. “I had sex with it on and even showered with it on. I couldn’t bear to look at myself.”

Simpson also wrote some words of encouragement to other mothers that might be unsure or insecure about their appearance after having kids. “I need to say this: If you have stretch marks from pregnancy, I hope you can be proud that your body created life. I was not strong enough. It touched all my insecurities, and I couldn’t handle it.”

She scheduled her tummy tuck for a date that was two weeks after a planned birthday trip for adult friends to St. Bart’s in July 2015. Simpson later revealed that she was never sober during the trip thanks to a battle with alcoholism. She even started drinking at 7am during some days of the trip.

While she was on vacation, she received a phone call from her doctor expressing concern about her liver levels before the surgery. Even though her plastic surgeon gave her clearance for the surgery, her regular doctor would not give her permission and even warned her that she could die. The doctor told her she needed to stop doing her bad habits for three months before the surgery.

Simpson was aware that she was not benefitting her health thanks to drinking and diet pills. However, she only decided to cut back on the booze and pills once the trip was over. She also decided to not change her surgery date despite warnings from both her husband and her mother. Simpson had the surgery but she was not entirely happy with the results.

Simpson wrote she still had “loose skin that hung over my pants. She remember that people had been “cruel” to her in the past and fat-shamed her for wearing size 4 “mom jeans” when she only weighed 120 pounds. Jessica was not ready to “face that laugh-and-point cruelty again” so she made the decision to have another tummy tuck.

The second abdominoplasty was more involved and, once again, she was asked not to have it by her husband and mom. Even though she gave up drinking again before the surgery, the procedure ended up taking two hours longer than was originally planned.

Her post-op recovery involved wearing drains with pouches to collect blood. She also suffered from an inflammation of the colon and so much vomiting that she thought she was “going to bust my sutures.” Simpson was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital where she spent nine days recovering from the surgery.

When asked about her feelings after her cosmetic procedures, Simpson said “I recovered, and yes, my stomach looked great. I feel like myself again. But I can tell you that plastic surgery does not cure what’s inside. Really, it’s about how you feel emotionally, and I was still just as hard on myself once those stitches were out.”

In addition, she says that therapy has helped her to face issues with her body image and addictions. She stopped drinking in 2017 and then welcomed her third child in 2019. She also gained, and lost, 100 pounds during that pregnancy.

During an interview on The Today Show, Simpson said she wrote the book so her fans would know that good things can follow bad times. “I wanted to show people the obstacles that I had to get through and the tools that I have now to go back and face them. I know what to do with it all now, and I’m proud of it.”

There have been no updates from Simpson about any additional plastic surgery procedures after her tummy tuck surgeries. As she has been very open about her past procedures, it seems likely that she will share any future plastic surgery procedures with the public.
