Botched Plasty

Many of us have asked ourselves at one point or another: Is cosmetic plastic surgery right for me? For some people, money and time is never an issue. However, that shouldn’t be the only limiting factors when you are deciding to permanently change your looks, and commit to plastic surgery. Choosing the right cosmetic surgeon for your procedure may be just as important as making the first steps to drastically alter your body.

Play Detective

There are many resources available for you when evaluating the credibility and experience of your next potential cosmetic surgeon. For example, going for a quick visit to the American Board of Plastic Surgery website to see if your doctor is board-certified may save you a lot of time, money and revisions. Talk with your doctor, interview him, and get to know him. These are foolproof ways to assess your surgeon’s credibility and experience.

Some Questions to Consider

  • Is the doctor using a certified surgical facility with board-certified anesthesiologists?
  • Are you allowed to see before and after pictures of other patients?
  • How many of these procedures have the surgeon performed and how long has he/she been in the practice?
  • Are your questions being met with realistic and informative answers?
  • What is the total cost of the operation? Including surgeon’s fee, operating room anesthesia and all other charges.

Keep in Mind

Keep in mind however, that even after establishing a good relationship with your cosmetic surgeon and ensuring that they have excellent credentials, still won’t guarantee you a perfect outcome. We all know that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so it is paramount to be mentally prepared. Also, be prepared to accept whatever the outcome of the surgery may yield. After all, no amount of credentials and expertise from the doctor can help if you are simply unhappy with the results.
