Invisalign

Invisalign makes use of clear, thin, plastic aligners to apply gentle but constant pressure to the teeth to shift them into better aligned positions. The procedure begins with taking X-rays, photographs and dental impressions of the patient’s teeth. The records are sent to Invisalign along with specific instructions of how the teeth need to move.  A computer generates a 3-D rendering of the teeth and a computer model of how the teeth will be moved to the desired positions. The process of making the aligners takes 3-4 weeks. The aligners are to be worn for two weeks each in a specific order that move the teeth.

Ideal candidates are healthy individuals suffering from mild to moderate spacing and crowding issues, overcrowded smiles and crooked teeth. Patients who want to straighten the teeth as well as improve the overall appearance, health, and function of the mouth are also suitable candidates. The procedure isn't suitable for patients suffering from major overcrowding or complicated tooth movement.

The typical cost for Invisalign ranges from $3500-$8000. There are several factors that can influence the final cost including the extent of the alignment required, the number of aligners needed throughout the treatment and the geographic location of the procedure.

Once the aligners are in place, there is typically minimal irritation and discomfort experienced. Patients are advised to maintain proper oral hygiene. The aligners are very comfortable to wear and can be removed to eat, drink, brush or floss. They must be worn for at least 20 hours everyday. The progress of the treatment is evaluated every 4-6 weeks to check if alterations have to be made to the treatment plan. Once the desired results are achieved, the aligners will be replaced with retainers to help the teeth maintain their new alignment. The results can last a lifetime if all instructions are followed.
