In “Avengers: Endgame”, two of the superheroes that helped this film franchise dominate the box office are Black Widow and Captain Marvel. The actresses that play these roles, Scarlett Johansson and Brie Larson, are also defeating the aging process as they continue to look youthful thanks to some cosmetic surgery help. When it comes to looking like an A-list actor on the red carpet, “Avengers: Endgame” star Scarlett Johansson has delved into the world of cosmetic surgery in the past. One of the first changes she made to her appearance was having rhinoplasty when was she younger to change the size and shape of her nose.

• Rhinoplasty, AKA a nose job, is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to change the look and functionality of the nose. Some of the common reasons patients have rhinoplasty include they think their nose is too large or wide, they have a bump on their nose or they think the tip of their nose goes up or down too much. Rhinoplasty typically involves surgically trimming various parts of the nose to make structural changes that improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose. The surgery can be performed as open or closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is when an incision is made along the columella which is the soft tissue located beneath the nostrils. The skin is then lifted to give the surgeon an open view of the lower nasal skeleton. Once the skin is lifted, the cosmetic surgeon has access to the various structures of the nose including the bone and cartilage that support the nose. A small scar will result after open rhinoplasty. Closed rhinoplasty is when the surgeon makes the incisions inside the nose so they will not be seen by the average eye. The surgeon makes the incisions inside the nose so there are no visible scars.
• Scarlett has also had facial fillers to rejuvenate her look and maintain a youthful appearance. Fillers are placed in the body via injections to lessen lines on the face and provide volume and fullness that has been lost in the face. In general, the Black Widow has had facial fillers placed under her eyes and in the cheeks to restore and maintain fullness to her facial features.

Although Brie Larson and her character of Captain Marvel are relatively new to the Marvel movie universe, Larson has been a fixture on red carpets for years. In order to look “red carpet ready”, Brie has had a number of cosmetic surgery procedures to maintain her youthful look in “Avengers: Endgame” and in front of her fans.

• Botox is injected into the face to smooth and lessen the appearance of wrinkles. Once Botox is injected into a muscle located near a wrinkle, neuromuscular blockers work to limit the amount of muscle contraction in that area. This allows the muscles to relax as well as allows the skin to smooth out and reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles. Wrinkles can occur because of excessive use and tightness of the muscles in the forehead, the corners of the eyes and above the nose. Frowning and squinting can also cause wrinkles. Patients with moderate to severe wrinkles are good candidates for the treatment. Botox is injected using a fine needle to place the solution in the areas of the face impacted by wrinkles. Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles in these areas to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.  The amount of Botox that is injected is determined by the size and depth of the area being treated. It might take one injection or multiple injections to achieve the desired results. The treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure and is done in the office of a doctor in a matter of minutes. The results will start to be visible in a week or two as the skin begins to smooth out and the wrinkles fade. The final results last anywhere from four to six months. Patients will need to have repeat Botox treatments to maintain the results.
• Just like Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson has also undergone rhinoplasty to alter the look of her nose. Larson had the bridge, tip and nasal bone of her nose reduced to increase the definition of her nose while still maintaining a natural appearance. The final results of both open and closed rhinoplasty are visible after about six months. The results can last a lifetime as long as the patients does not experience any sort of trauma or injury to the nose,
