Eye Rejuvenation

Eye Rejuvenation

Eyelid surgery, AKA eye lift or blepharoplasty, reduces the bagginess of lower eyelids and removes excess skin. During upper blepharoplasty, a CO2 laser is used to make incisions on the top eyelid to remove excess fat and skin. There is minimal scarring as the incision is made along the crease line of the eye. Sutures are removed 7-10 days later. During lower blepharoplasty, the CO2 laser is used to cut the fat bags from the inside of the lower lid so there is no visible scarring. Patients are subjected to general anesthesia and the eyes are covered with a protective shield during the procedure.

The best candidates for an eye lift are 35 years or older. If baggy eyelids or droopy eyelids run in the patient's family, the surgery can be done at an earlier age. Ideal candidates for this procedure should be nonsmokers, healthy with no medical conditions that can impair healing and not have any serious eye conditions.

The typical cost for blepharoplasty is $2500-$6000.  The final cost depends on whether the procedure is upper or lower blepharoplasty, fees charged by the hospital or surgical facility, the surgeon’s level of expertise, the geographic location of the procedure and if any other procedures are performed at the same time.

Eye rejuvenation gives a younger and fresher look to the eyes. Recovery from eyelid surgery generally takes several weeks. Within two days to a week, the stitches will be removed. During the first week, patients will want to make sure their eyes receive plenty of rest. The redness and swelling after blepharoplasty will fade with time. The results of blepharoplasty can last for seven to ten to fifteen years if the patient follows the post-op instructions from the surgeon.
