What is Brazilian Butt Lift ?

A Brazilian butt lift, also known as BBL, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed to give the butt a larger appearance thanks to the addition of more volume and an improved contour. The augmentation of the butt is achieved by transferring fat from one area of the body of the patient and placing it/injecting it into the buttocks. Popular areas of the body for fat removal include the hips, lower back, abdomen, and thighs. The fat is taken from an area of the body with enough excess fat that can be removed by liposuction. Since the fat that is transferred comes from the body of the actual patient, there is a lower risk of the body rejecting the placement of the fat. The final results give patients an augmented size and shape to the buttocks without the person having to undergo surgery to place butt implants. The procedure also provides a better shape and contour to the area of the body where the excess fat was removed.

Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Explained

A Brazilian butt lift is a less invasive, surgical buttock augmentation procedure than other butt augmentation options such as butt implants. The surgery requires the performance of liposuction to remove fat from another area of the body of the patient. The fat is removed and then it is cleaned and processed before it is injected into the buttocks of a patient. The fat is strategically placed in the butt in order to provide the desired results without making the final look of the butt too large or unnatural in appearance. Even through all of the fat will not survive the fat transfer process, there will be enough fat remaining after the injection to provide a better shape and contour.

Brazilian butt lift is performed to give the buttocks a larger size and contour along with an enhanced appearance. Here are the procedure steps for the performance of a Brazilian butt lift:

- Anesthesia is administered to the patient to keep the person comfortable during the surgery

- The area of fat on the body where the excess fat will be removed is identified by the surgeon

- The excess fat is removed using liposuction performed by the surgeon

- The extracted fat is purified and processed so it can be transferred into the buttocks

- The surgeon injects the fat into targeted areas in the butt in order to provide more volume and increase the shape of the buttocks

Brazilian Butt Lift Downtime and Recovery

Patients should expect to experience some swelling, soreness and bruising after they have a Brazilian butt lift. Patients should not put direct pressure on their buttocks for several weeks and should only use a donut shaped pillow if they need to sit down. They should also take care to sleep on their side or stomach. Patients will need to take short walks to reduce the chance of any blood clots forming.

A compression garment will need to be worn where the liposuction was performed during the first week or two of the recovery process. It will take two or three weeks for any pain and tenderness to begin to subside, but patients will still experience some swelling. Around the sixth week after the surgery, there should not be any additional soreness or discomfort such as patients first experienced after the surgery.

Asymmetry of the results

Typical Brazilian Butt Lift results

The final results of a Brazilian but lift depends on the amount of fat that is injected into the buttocks and how much liposuction is performed on the body.

The patient will enjoy an immediate improvement in the contour of the body where the liposuction procedure was performed. There will also be an improvement in the shape of the butt after the fat transfer is performed. The final results from a Brazilian butt lift can take about twelve weeks to view due to residual swelling. The final results should be permanent as long as the patient follow a healthy lifestyle and does not have a large weight gain or a large weight loss after the procedure. The fat cells that do not remain in the buttocks will be reabsorbed by the body.

Alternatives to Brazilian Butt Lift

A butt lift is an option for patients with skin that is sagging and/or wrinkled due to a significant loss of weight or a large weight gain. An incision is made in the top part of the buttocks so the surgeon can remove excess skin in the area and also pull the remaining skin tighter. Even though a butt lift does not provide a larger volume or shape to the butt, it can lift a butt that is sagging or droopy. A butt lift is often performed with a Brazilian butt lift or butt implants to enhance the look of the buttocks.

Butt implants are placed in the buttocks, and they are inserted between both butt cheeks (the incision is hidden in the crease), or they are placed in the top portion of both sides of the upper area of the buttocks. The incision can also be made where the butt cheeks meet the top of the thighs or in the center of the sacrum (with the incision running downwards). The butt implants are then placed in the muscles of the butt or above the gluteal muscles on each side of the buttocks.
