Sharon Stone Discovered she had a breast augmentation without giving consent

Sharon Stone took Hollywood by storm in the early 1990s with her performance in “Basic Instinct”. She was hailed as a sex symbol and was known as much for her looks as her acting ability. Even though her on-screen persona was often viewed as a woman being in control of the men around her, Stone had one experience with a male doctor that was totally out of her control. In her new book, Stone tells the story of the time she discovered breast augmentation was performed on her body without her consent.

Sharon Stone Breast Augmentation Discovery

Back in 2001, Sharon Stone had surgery to remove some benign tumors that were “gigantic, bigger than my breast alone.” When the surgery was over, the actress discovered that her surgeon had increased her breast size while she was on the operating table. The surgeon had placed large breast implants in her body without her knowledge or approval.

Stone told a British newspaper, “When I was un-bandaged, I discovered that I had a full cup-size bigger breasts, ones the he said ‘go better with your hip size.’ He has changed my body without my knowledge or consent.”

After the discovery was made, Stone decided to confront the surgeon about the changes that were made to her breasts. The doctor replied that he “thought that I would look better with bigger, ‘better’ boobs.”

Breast Augmentation – How it is Performed

The first thing to know about breast augmentation, or any type of cosmetic surgery, is that the doctor and the patient must be in agreement about the procedure. In other words, the patient must know all of the details about how the plastic surgery will be performed, the benefits of having the procedure, any possible risks or side effects and the type of final results that are expected after the treatment. The patient must give his, or her, consent for the treatment which means the person must give permission for the doctor to perform the cosmetic surgery.

Breast augmentation is also known as a “boob job” and is a procedure that alters and/or enhances the shape and size of the breasts of the patient. There are a few options available to patients when it comes to augmenting the size of the breasts:

  • Breast implants, made of saline or silicone, can be placed behind the individual breasts (either above or below the pectoral muscles). The choice of breast implants can be either textured or smooth as well as round or teardrop shaped.
  • The breasts can also be enlarged by the harvesting of fat from other areas on the body of the patient. The harvested fat is purified and processed before bring injected into the breast area. The final result is the addition of volume to breasts that are smaller in size along with giving the breasts a more contoured and fuller appearance.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

After the breast augmentation procedure is performed, patients will likely need to wear a bandage that is designed to compress the breasts or a sports bra that provides the necessary support for the breasts during the recovery period.

The amount of recovery time necessary before returning to work is normally a few days to a week. If the type of work is more physical in nature, there might be a need to take longer than a week off work for recovery. Any strenuous exercise or physical activity will need to be avoided for at least two weeks.

In general, it can take around two to three months for the augmented breasts to settle into their final position after the surgery is performed. It can also take two to three months for the body to finish adjusting to its new shape. Patients will see some swelling of the breasts and they will initially see the breasts sitting high on the chest as the existing skin and tissue begins to adjust to the changes in the breasts.

In general, the final results of breast augmentation will be visible around six months after the surgery is performed.

Sharon Stone Finds Peace by Reevaluating Her Priorities

In addition to her unexpected breast augmentation procedure, Stone suffered a stroke in the early 2000s that caused her to have a cerebral hemorrhage that lasted for nine days.

She went to describe having a “profound” experience and that she “found out that I wasn’t the only one who’d had this kind of experience.” She added that her experiences made her reevaluate her priorities in life.

“I’m in a really grateful place. When I was a kid, I always wanted to have a house full of kids running and screaming and dogs, and I got it. And I feel very blessed and happy about the life I got. We’re happy together, and what’s better than that?”

She added, “There’s nothing more free than standing centered in yourself. I tell my friends that my new mantra is, ‘It’s never too late to become yourself.”
