Dangerous part of body to do surgery on

Plastic surgery continues to be a very popular choice for millions of people each year. From cosmetic treatments such as Botox and fillers to invasive surgical procedures such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty, there are plenty of choices when it comes to what type of procedure can be performed to provide the desired results. Patients should be aware of the fact that there are some risks involved with having plastic surgery and there is even one place on the body that has been named the most dangerous place to get plastic surgery.

Curious about the area of the body patients need to be most concerned about when undergoing plastic surgery? Read on for the answer!

Beware of Buttocks Plastic Surgery!

It has been determined a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), which is also known as gluteal fat grafting, is currently the most dangerous plastic surgery procedure. In an online interview, one board-certified plastic surgeon noted “death may happen as frequently as one in every 2351 BBLs.”

Even though this statistic should make people pause and think twice about having a BBL, it remains an extremely popular choice with more than 21,000 Brazilian butt lifts being performed by board-certified surgeons in the United States as recently as 2020.

As part of our commitment to being a plastic surgery news and information resource for patients of ages, Cosmetic Town TV has prepared a spotlight on Brazilian butt lift that warns about the possible dangers of the procedure as well as how our website visitors can use Cosmetic Town as a research source for plastic surgery:

One of the reasons a Brazilian butt lift is so popular is because it removes fat from unwanted areas on the body (via liposuction) and transfer it into the buttocks for a rounder and more projected shape. The area of the body where the liposuction was performed also enjoys an improved shape and contour.

However, as mentioned above, things can possibly go wrong during a BBL. The fat that is injected into the buttocks can sometimes enter the large blood vessels that are located in the gluteal area. In turn, this fat can travel to the lungs of the patient and cause issues with breathing as well as the death of the patient in some cases. This potentially deadly complication is known as a pulmonary fat embolism.

Can a Brazilian Butt Lift Be Performed Safely?

Even though a Brazilian butt lift can sometimes be a risky procedure, that does not mean it cannot be performed properly and safely by an experienced, board-certified doctor. The decision to have a BBL should be made on an individual basis as there are many factors that go into making it a safe procedure.

For example, the patient should perform proper research about the surgeon of choice to make sure the doctor has experience in performing the procedure. The surgeon should also be trained in the safest techniques and know what to do if anything starts to go wrong during the surgical procedure.

There are also factors related to the health of the patient that can contribute to the safety of the BBL surgery. Patients who have a history of blood clots or smoking might not be good candidates for a BBL as smoking can impact the ability of the body to properly heal. If the doctor determines the patient to be a “high risk” candidate, they might decide to not perform the BBL procedure.

Brazilian Butt Lifts – Are They Getting Safer?

As the medical community in the United States continues to become more familiar with performing BBLs, the procedure has started to become less risky. In addition, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has created a task force with the mission to publish guidelines on how plastic surgeons should safely perform this operation. While the chance of a pulmonary fat embolism is still possible, these complications do not happen to each patient.

Another way to keep patients safe during a Brazilian butt lift is to have the surgery performed in the United States. Doctors in the United States have to follow strict medical rules and guidelines that are put in place to keep patients safe. Patients that travel abroad for a surgery, AKA “medical tourism”, can face problems dealing with possible complications that arise after the treatment. Since their doctor of choice is out of the country, patients will not have an easy time visiting the surgeon if the office is another country. Patients that stay within the United States can more easily visit the medical office since it is within the same country as their residence.

It is hard to predict when complications will occur during a medical procedure such as a Brazilian butt lift, but it is important to plan ahead and prepare for both good and bad outcomes when it comes to plastic surgery. It is unknown how long a Brazilian butt lift will make the buttocks be classified as the most dangerous place on the body for plastic surgery. It is hoped that updates and advances in BBL technology will make the surgery safer than ever before in the future.
