Dental Implants Explained by a Hollywood Cosmetic Dentist

Hollywood cosmetic dentist explains how dental implants work

There are a number of reasons that patients can lose their teeth as they get older. The teeth can come loose if a patient does not practice proper oral hygiene to take care of the health of the teeth. The teeth can also come out of the mouth if a person suffers some sort of trauma to the teeth. Besides the fact that missing teeth can be embarrassing to the person suffering from the missing teeth, a smile that is incomplete can be painful as well as lead to oral health issues for a person. One of the most popular methods to fill-in the space left by a missing tooth is a dental implant. The cosmetic dentist places a titanium post in the space left behind by the tooth to replace the lost tooth roots. The dental implant provides stability for later cosmetic dentistry treatments such as a dental crown or bridge. Plus, after the loss of a tooth, the jaw will begin to shrink and this can give a person an appearance that is aged in the mouth. The dental implant stops bone atrophy (shrinkage) after the loss of a tooth and restores function to that area of the mouth.

To further educate patients about the life-changing results provided by dental implants, Cosmetic Town TV recently visited the office of Dr. Borzoo Ahmadi, a top Hollywood and Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, for further insights into the benefits provided by dental implants:

Dental Implant Procedure Information

The cosmetic dentist takes X-rays of the mouth to make an impression of the area of the mouth that will receive the dental implant. The impression is taken to design and manufacture the dental crown or bridge that will be placed on the dental implant. On the day of the treatment, the dentist will remove any of the damaged teeth that remain in the mouth. Once the tooth is removed, the dentist drills a hole in the jawbone and the implant is then placed in the jawbone to serve as an artificial root for the new tooth that will be placed in the mouth. The dental implant fuses with the jawbone as the jawbone continues to heal.

Once the implant is deemed to be stable, an abutment is placed on the top of the implant so it can work as a connector to the crown that is placed on top of it. The abutment is then tightened so it will slip or move around when a patient is chewing food. The final step of the process is attaching the crown to the abutment.

It should be noted that a patient might need a jawbone graft if the jawbone where the implant is scheduled to be placed is too soft or does not have enough thickness to form a solid base. The cosmetic dentist will remove a piece of bone from another part of the body and transplant it into the jawbone. There might be times when an artificial bone is a better choice to be placed in the jawbone.

Dental Implant Cost

The cost of dental implants depends on a number of factors including how many implants will be placed in the mouth, whether or not the patient needs a bone graft and if the cosmetic dentist needs to remove any of the damaged teeth that might be left in the mouth before placing the dental implant. The cost can also vary according to fees charged by the doctor or the facility and the area of the country where the dental implant procedure is performed. Overall, the cost can run anywhere from $1200-$8500.

Dental Implants Recovery and Results

The recovery process for dental implants is very simple for patients. They will need to care for their dental implants just like they would any other teeth in the mouth. They should practice proper oral hygiene and brush their teeth twice a day while also flossing the teeth on a regular basis. Regular visits to the dentist are also necessary for cleaning the teeth and making sure the dental implant is properly doing its job in the mouth.

The results from having dental implants placed in the mouth can last for decades as long as the patients follows the instructions from the cosmetic dentist and also practices proper oral hygiene. If something happens to the dental implant that causes it to crack or break, patients should immediately visit their dentist to have the dental implant replaced.

Dental Implants Require a Consultation Appointment

Patients that are interested in having dental implants placed in their mouth should schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified cosmetic dentist. The dentist will examine the mouth of the patient to determine how much work will need to be done to successfully place a dental implant in the targeted area. In addition, the cosmetic dentist will examine the teeth to decide if more than one dental implant is necessary to provide the proper amount of support and cosmetic dental work to the mouth. Plus, the cosmetic dentist will set realistic expectations so the patient will not be surprised by the amount of changes that can be made to the appearance and functionality of the mouth following the placement of the dental implants.
