Butt Augmentation - What You Need to Know

Learn what you need to know about having butt augmentation

Thanks to celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian, bigger butts are in style and the demand for them is growing among patients. As recently as 2016-2017, there was a 10\\% increase in the performance of butt augmentation according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. It is vital that patients visit a board-certified and licensed surgeon for their butt augmentation procedures as “black market” butt augmentation that is performed in locations other than the office of a doctor can result in long-lasting side effects including disfigurement, infections, scars and even the death of the patient. Let’s take a look at what you need to know before having butt augmentation to get a bigger and better booty.

Brazilian Butt Lift is Popular

In order to perform a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), doctors extract stubborn and/or excess fat from other areas such as the stomach, back, legs, flanks or arms through the use of liposuction. The extracted fat is then purified and processed so it can be injected into the buttocks of the patient to provide the person with a larger and more contoured backside.

The patient will see some immediate results in the shape of the buttocks as well as an improvement in the area where the fat was removed using liposuction. It can take around 12 weeks for the final results to be visible. The final results are usually permanent and the amount of butt augmentation depends on the amount of fat injected into the buttocks.

BBL is a popular procedure because the fat comes from the body of the actual patient so there is little chance of an infection where the fat is placed in the buttocks. Patients can experience some nausea or swelling that is temporary and will resolve on its own.

In addition, the patient that wants to undergo BLL needs to have enough fat elsewhere on the body to transfer into the buttocks. Patients that do not have enough excess or extra fat that can easily be removed and transferred into the buttocks will need to discuss other methods of buttock augmentation with their doctor.

Sculptra Injections Explained

While Sculptra is not approved solely for the purpose of buttock enhancement, there are some doctors that are using the FDA-approved facial filler, diluted by water, to add volume to the buttocks.

Sculptra is injected into targeted areas in the buttocks to thicken the skin as well as stimulate collagen growth to provide a larger and more contoured backside. This butt augmentation method is a good option for patients without a lot of fat elsewhere on the body to transfer to the buttocks.

Since Sculptra injections do not require surgery, there is little to no downtime after the procedure. Patients can resume their regular activities within 24 hours of the treatment. In general, the results can last anywhere from 2-5 years.

Butt Implants Examined

Instead of augmenting the buttocks using Sculptra injections or fat from other areas of the body, some patients turn to silicone butt implants to achieve the desired increase in the size and contour of the buttocks. Butt implants are placed between the skin and muscle in order to provide the desired amount of butt augmentation. Patients that have lost a good amount of weight often turn to butt implants as the weight loss can leave a person with a saggy appearance to the backside.

The surgeon will use general anesthesia when placing the silicone butt implants. The butt implants are made of FDA-approved semi-solid medical grade silicone and they are placed through an incision that is created in the crease of the buttocks or the area where the back of the thighs meets the cheeks of the buttocks. A pocket is created so they can be placed above or below the muscle and the silicone butt implants are teardrop shaped so they can provide greater fullness as well as a rounder appearance to the top and mid-section of the buttocks.

Patients should be aware of the fact that silicone butt implants can cause some complications including pain, swelling, infection and a buildup of fluid in the treated area.

The results from butt implants are immediately visible after the procedure. It should be noted that it can take several months for the swelling and bruising to subside after the silicone butt implants are placed in the body. The final results are long-lasting and can remain in place for 10 or more years before they need to be replaced.

Butt Augmentation Performed by a Board-Certified Surgeon

Patients need to have butt augmentation performed by a board-certified surgeon experienced in performing butt augmentation using various techniques to achieve the desired results. The doctor needs to have experience placing silicone butt implants so they stay in place and do not drift or rotate out of place in the buttocks. In addition, the surgeon needs to have an artistic eye when performing fat grafting or Sculptra injections so the results look aesthetically pleasing and natural to the eye. A board-certified surgeon understands the anatomy of a person and realizes there is little room for error when it comes achieving the desired results of a butt augmentation procedure.
