What to know about butt augmentation before scheduling it

Have you spent a good amount of time in the gym trying to build your booty so it looks like it belongs on a Kardashian or Jennifer Lopez? If you are not seeing the results you desire, butt augmentation might be the option you need in order to gain the buttocks you desire. Take a look below to learn about the growing popularity of butt augmentation as well as the multiple options available to you.

Butt Augmentation Grows in Popularity

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, butt augmentation is one of the fastest growing cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the United States. It was reported that, from the year 2018 to the year 2019, the number of buttock implant procedures grew by 3\\% among patients. During the same time period, buttock augmentation with fat grafting procedures increased by 17\\% among patients.

Fat Grafting AKA Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

Fat grafting is the most popular butt augmentation method and, when it comes to enhancing the size of the buttocks, it is also known as a Brazilian butt lift (BBL). During this procedure, BBL doctors start by performing liposuction on a targeted area of the body that has excess fat which has been hard for the patient to remove through methods such as exercise and diet. Some of the most popular areas of the body where liposuction is performed include the thighs, stomach and upper back. Liposuction removes fat from these areas so it can be processed and purified before being injected back into the booty of the patient. One of the reasons that BBL fat transfer is so popular is the fact that the fat comes from the body of the patient. Since the fat comes from the body of the person having the procedure, there is very little chance of the body rejecting the fat or suffering from an infection.

While some results are immediately seen, it can take up to a year for BBL recovery to show the final results. It takes time for the body to completely incorporate the fat that is injected into the buttocks. Patients should know that not all of the transferred fat will survive the process. In general, the final results should be permanent.

Buttock Implants

There are some patients that cannot have a Brazilian butt lift because they do not have enough excess fat for a fat grafting procedure. These candidates can have buttock implants placed in their butt in order to gain an enhanced and more contoured appearance to the backside.

Butt implants are placed in the booty via a surgical procedure. The surgeon makes an incision in the vertical butt crease of the patient and then places silicone butt implants either above, or into, the gluteal muscle on each side of the butt. The silicone implants can be shaped like teardrops so they will provide more fullness in the mid-section of the buttocks. They can also be round in shape in order to provide a patient with a fuller appearance in the mid-section or top of the butt.

There are some results that are immediately visible after the surgery but it can take several months for swelling and bruising after the procedure to resolve. Plus, it might take a few months for the butt implants to settle into their final position. The final results will be long lasting and should be maintained as long as the patient follows the post-op instructions and practices a healthy lifestyle. The shape and size of the butt can be impacted by weight loss/gain and gravity so the patient might need to undergo a follow-up procedure at some point.

Discuss Your Butt Augmentation Options with a Doctor

If you are interested in undergoing a butt augmentation procedure, you should discuss the desired final results and medical options with a board-certified doctor that is experienced in performing BBL or butt implant surgery. The doctor will perform a thorough examination of your body to make sure you are healthy enough to undergo BBL or butt implant surgery and that the desired final results are realistic and can be achieved through the chosen medical procedure.

Your consultation appointment is your opportunity to ask any questions you have about butt augmentation as well as ask to see “before and after” photos of actual patients treated by the surgeon. Some of the most common questions include the type of results you can expect to see, if you are an ideal candidate for butt augmentation and what your options will be if the amount of augmentation is not what you wanted to achieve with the procedure.

The doctor can also discuss exercises with you that can help you gain a larger and more contoured buttock if you are not ready to commit to a BBL or butt implant surgery. There are exercises such as leg raises and squats that target the glutes and help to give them a larger appearance. While butt augmentation surgery might have the appearance of a “quick fix”, there are times when patients still prefer getting bigger buttocks without surgery (if possible).
