Posted April 04, 2018

According to a report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2017 increased by 2\\% over the year 2016. In addition, minimally invasive procedures had a slightly higher growth rate than surgical procedures.

However, there were 1.8-million cosmetic surgeries performed last year. The number one cosmetic surgery on the list was breast augmentation. There were just over 300,000 breast augmentation procedures performed last year. This is a 3\\% increase over 2016.

The remaining treatments in the Top 5 were liposuction, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery and tummy tucks.

Despite the rise in the popularity of breast augmentations, the number of breast reductions also increased last year. The procedure, also known as reduction mammoplasty, increased by 11\\% over the total number performed in 2016.

In a statement to the press, ASPS President Jeffrey E. Janis, MD said, “Breast reductions are consistently reported as one of the highest patient satisfaction procedures because it positively affects a woman’s quality of life. It addresses both functional and aesthetic concerns.”

In addition, the number of minimally invasive procedures rose to almost 16 million in 2017. Nearly half of them were Botox injections with a total number of 7.23 million procedures. The remaining treatments in the Top 5 were soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion.
