Information and steps about undergoing breast fat transfer

Breast fat transfer enhances the appearance of the breasts by making them bigger in size and appearance. One of the most popular methods to accomplish breast augmentation is through breast fat transfer. This cosmetic breast augmentation procedure is performed by taking fat from one area of the body and transferring it to the breasts to augment and increase their size. Because of the growing popularity of this breast augmentation procedure, Cosmetic Town TV recently took an in-depth look at how breast fat transfer is performed as well as the reasons why it is growing in popularity.

Breast Fat Transfer Procedure

The first step in undergoing breast fat transfer, AKA autologous fat transfer, is having liposuction performed to harvest fat from another area on the body of the patient. The fat can be removed from multiple areas of the body including the belly, thighs and abdomen. Once the fat is removed from the body, it is cleansed, purified and processed before it is injected into the breasts using fine needles to inject the fat into the areas of the breast that will be enhanced. In general, breast fat transfer is an ideal choice for patients that desire a mild to moderate increase in their breast size such as an increase of a cup size.

Breast Fat Transfer Advantages and Disadvantages

When it comes to breast fat transfer, there are some pros and cons to undergoing this cosmetic breast augmentation procedure.

Breast fat transfer advantages include:

  • The procedure uses tissues from the body of the patient so the results are 100\\% natural.
  • In addition to providing a greater shape and size to the breasts, the fat transfer process also provides a great body contour to the section of the body where the fat was removed from the patient. Depending on the area of the body where the fat was removed, patients can enjoy a flatter stomach, a slimmer waist or thighs that are more sculpted in appearance.
  • The process of removing the fat, as well as injecting it into the breasts, is performed through tiny incisions on the body of the patient so there is little chance of scars after the procedure.
  • Because the fat is taken from the body of the patient, there are few side effects unlike surgical procedures such as breast implants.

Some of the disadvantages of breast fat transfer include:

  • Breast fat transfer can only provide a limited amount of augmentation such as an increase of one cup size. On the other hand, breast implants can provide an increase of multiple cup sizes.
  • All of the fat that is transferred will not survive the breast fat transfer process. Some of the fat will be reabsorbed by the body after it is injected into the patient.
  • Breast fat transfer will provide a bigger size to the breasts but it cannot lift the breast and correct issues such as sagging breasts,
  • Breast fat transfer is often more expensive than breast augmentation using breast implants because the surgery has to perform liposuction along with the breast augmentation.

Breast Fat Transfer Ideal Candidates

The ideal candidate for breast fat transfer is a person with enough fat elsewhere on the body to harvest for injection into the breasts. In addition, women that have lost volume in their breasts due to pregnancy or breast feeding can also be candidates for breast fat transfer. Female patients that want to remove their breast implants, but still have larger breasts, are good candidates since their breasts are already expanded. Finally, women with asymmetrical breasts are ideal candidates as adding fat to the breasts can help them achieve an “even” appearance.

Breast Fat Transfer Results

After undergoing a breast fat transfer procedure, patients will need to avoid intense physical activity for up to four weeks. In addition, the patient will need to wear a compression garment on the areas where the liposuction was performed, as well as a sports bra, for four to six weeks after the surgery. Six months after the transferred fat is injected into the breast area, the fat that is not absorbed by the body will permanently provide breast augmentation.

Breast Fat Transfer Consultation Appointment

Before making the final decision to under breast fat transfer, the patient will need to schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified cosmetic surgeon. The doctor will examine the patient to make sure the person has enough excess fat on the body to transfer to the breasts. The surgeon will also discuss the desired final results to make sure the patient is fully aware of the fact the breast fat transfer can only provide a certain amount of breast augmentation.  It is vital that the patient has realistic expectations going into the procedure so she will not be disappointed by the final results. Finally, the patient should ask to see “before and after” photos of actual patients treated by the doctor in order to get a better idea of the results that can be achieved through breast fat transfer.
