How to Make Sure Plastic Surgery Doesn't Age Your Appearance

Things to do to make sure plastic surgery doesnt age your face

The goal of plastic surgery is to make a desired change in the appearance of a patient. The person having the procedure often wants to make a change that will result in a refreshed, rejuvenated and revitalized look. The end result should make the patient look like an enhanced version of the person that entered the office of the doctor.

However, there are some downsides to having plastic surgery. They include puffiness, redness and an overall distorted appearance that makes some patients look older than their actual age. In order to keep plastic surgery results from making you look older than your actual age, here are some tips to help you get the best results possible:

  • Take it easy on the filler – Before injecting a patient with filler, the surgeon and the patient both need to look at photos of the patient when he or she was younger. This is the best way to assess the aging process and how it has impacted the symmetry of the face. Plus, a thorough examination of the face allows the surgeon to see where volume loss and drooping is occurring in the facial features. Too much filler injected in the face can throw off the facial balance of a person. Throwing off the balance of the facial features can make a person look several years, or several decades, older than their actual age.
  • Don’t freeze the face – Botox is an effective way to reduce wrinkles and facial lines. It works by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles in the targeted area to stop the muscles from contracting and forming lines and wrinkles. Too much Botox can make the face look too smooth and so severe that many people think the facial features are frozen in appearance. Thankfully, the results of Botox are not permanent and they fade over time. The product needs to wear off completely before having another Botox treatment. Start with less than you think you need and work your way up to larger doses. The gradual increase in the amount of Botox used allows the doctor to monitor the results and determine the right amount to inject each time.
  • Don’t look like Mr. Spock – The appearance of a highly arched eyebrow can make you look older. In addition, having a brow without any arch can also age your appearance. Find a doctor that specializes in injecting Botox into the brow area to make sure the results are natural and help you look your age.
  • The hands tell the tale – Signs of aging also appear on the hands but many patients overlook this fact. No matter how young the rest of the body looks, the hands will be a dead giveaway of your actual age.
  • Puffy cheeks alert – Too much filler or too much fat being transferred from another part of the body can lead to puffy cheeks. The quest for cheekbones that are higher in appearance can make a person look puffy and older.
  • Bigger is not always better – Some women aim for breast augmentation results that do not fit the frame of her body.  The results scream “Look! I have breast implants!!!” and they do not look natural to anyone viewing the results.
  • Chin implants need to be natural – The balance of the face can be thrown off if a chin implant placed in the area is too large. An oversized chin implant can make the face have a square shape rather than a heart shape. In addition, the softness of the face is lost thanks to the size of the chin implant.
  • Don’t rush the process – There are some patients who can’t wait to get a facelift and have one before it really needs to happen. If a facelift is done too early, or the surgery is not done properly, the midface tissues that are underlying on a person will give an unnatural fullness to the cheeks that can make a person look older.
  • Watch the neck – If too much fat is removed from the neck, the results can be a sharp and deep angle that gives a skinny and harsh look.

Before making the decision to undergo any type of plastic surgery procedure, schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified doctor. An experienced doctor will conduct a thorough examination and make sure you are an ideal candidate for a procedure.
