Cosmetic breast surgery enhances the look of the breasts

As a person ages, the breasts are impacted and they begin to lose their shape as well as start to sag and look droopy. Thankfully, patients can undergo cosmetic breast surgery in order to rejuvenate the appearance of the breasts, have a more youthful look and maintain a good shape and contour to them. In order to achieve the desired final results, patients should schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified doctor. The doctor will discuss the desired results and determine which cosmetic breast surgery technique is the best choice to provide the desired look to the breasts. When the patient meets with the surgeon of choice, the following cosmetic breast surgery techniques and tips will be discussed.

Breast Augmentation using Breast Implants

Breast augmentation, which is also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic breast surgery performed on patients that want to enhance the size, shape, look and contour of the breasts. When it comes to having breast augmentation using breast implants, there are multiple reasons for patients wanting to have this cosmetic procedure. Some women might feel that their breasts are too small. There are some patients that don’t like the appearance of their breasts because they fell that the breasts are not the same size or that they are lacking symmetry in their appearance. In addition, there are patients that want to enhance or improve the appearance of their breasts due to changes that happened to them during pregnancy.

Cosmetic breast augmentation is performed by placing breast implants under or over the chest muscle of a patient. Incisions are made so the cosmetic surgeon can place the implants in the armpit, the lower breast fold or the areola which is the area that surrounds the nipple. The breast implants that are placed in the breast area of the patient are made either of a silicone shell that contains a silicone gel or they are made of saline AKA a salt water solution.

Before the final decision is made to place breast implants in the body of the patient, the cosmetic surgeon meets with the patient to make sure the patient is an ideal candidate for cosmetic breast augmentation. In addition, the surgeon will discuss the results desired by the patient in order to make sure the person has realistic expectations for final results that look natural in appearance. There are some patients that want breast augmentation results that will look too large and unnatural in appearance. Besides not having a natural look, breast augmentation results that are too large can be out of proportion with the rest of the body which makes it obvious to others that breast augmentation has been performed on the person.

Breast Lift

As mentioned above, the breasts change shape as a person gets older. In addition to the breasts starting to lose their shape, the skin that is located around the breast can also begin to sag. In order to combat the sagging of the breast area, patients can undergo a breast lift, AKA a mastopexy, to restore fullness to the bust line thanks to the removal of excess skin as well as the tightening and lift of the breast tissue that remains after the removal process.

The raising of the breasts to provide a more youthful look can also be performed on women with skin that is not strong enough to support the weight of the breasts. The surgeon has a number of incision options including:

  • Donut AKA Periareolar – The incision is designed to only go around the areola area
  • Wise Pattern – The incision created by the surgeon is made in the shape of an anchor so it will go around the chest and then below the breast
  • LeJeour – The incision created by the surgeon is designed to go around the areola as well as downward

Breast Reduction

Women that have unusually large breasts can have a number of physical and self-esteem issues related to overly large breasts. Patients that have overly large breasts can have back pain and neck pain due to the size and weight of the breasts. They can also be uncomfortable with the amount of attention they receive from others due to the size of their breasts. These patients can undergo breast reduction surgery to reduce the size of the breasts as well as create a look that is more flattering and aesthetically appealing.

During breast reduction surgery, the doctor will remove some of the excess breast tissue and also some of the fat and skin that is located in the area surrounding the breast tissue. The removal of the excess breast tissue, skin and fat works to reduce the overall size of the breasts.

Cosmetic Breast Surgery Consultation

Patients looking to have cosmetic breast surgery need to schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified surgeon that is experienced in performing all types of breast surgery. Each patient has their own reasons for wanting to undergo cosmetic breast surgery and a doctor can examine the patient and determine the best cosmetic breast surgery technique to achieve the desired results.

When it comes to the consultation process with patients, Dr. Goretti Ho, of Newport Beach, California, says having realistic expectations is important for patients. Dr. Ho told Cosmetic Town News, “I would say patients who have very unrealistic expectations or they want really big implants placed in there are generally not good to operate on.” Dr. David Kahng of Los Angeles added. “The beauty of breast augmentation is that each individual can be tailored to what they want whether it is a very natural look like model Emily Ratajkowski or a more augmented look. There is a wide range you can tailor to your desired outcome”
