How Plastic Surgery Gives You Confidence and Improves Your Life

How does plastic surgery give you confidence

Your face tells a story about your life and also how you feel about your appearance. Many women are not fans of how they look in the mirror. They often see wrinkles and lines and other signs of aging they would like to reduce or remove. Plastic surgery can rejuvenate the appearance of a person and give a more youthful appearance to the body. In addition, cosmetic surgery can improve the confidence level of a person and generally improve the life of a patient.

Plastic Surgery is a Common Choice

The reasons patients decide to have a cosmetic procedure is often a personal one based on wanting to make an improvement in their current appearance. According to studies by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of cosmetic procedures performed on patients increased by 2\\% last year. In fact, 17.5-million patients had a surgical or nonsurgical procedure with breast augmentation being at the top of the list. The rest of the “Top 5” was rounded out by liposuction, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery and tummy tucks.

Reasons for the Increase in Plastic Surgery Popularity

One of the main reasons doctors see an increase in plastic surgery procedures is the rise of the “selfie culture”. The constant sharing of photos online has made many people self-conscious about the way they look and the way they present themselves to others online. People are taking more pictures than ever before and sharing them with the world.

When asked if a lack of confidence is still a popular reason for plastic surgery, Dr. Rod J. Rohrich, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Dallas said, “Younger patients often come to see me for rhinoplasty to boost their self-confidence with their peers as well as pressure from social media. People in the workforce desire a facelift or eyelid surgery to keep them competitive and to restore and boost their confidence. The most important reason patients want plastic surgery is that they want to look as good as they feel.”

Dr. Rohrich added “Cosmetic surgery helps patients feel better about themselves both inward and outwardly in the age of selfies, social media and apps that make you look better than you do in real life. Self-image is a key part of how each of us copes in life and with each other. Cosmetic Surgery contributes greatly to the restoration of self-image as well as the enhancement of self-image."

Some Popular Procedures

No matter the reasons for wanting to have plastic surgery, there are more choices available to patients than at any point in the past. Here are some of the most popular procedures patients are using to make a change in their appearance:

  • Facelift – While fillers and Botox offer a temporary improvement to the appearance of a person, they do not offer the long-term benefits of a facelift. By targeting specific areas on the face, doctors can provide a rejuvenated appearance that reduces and/or eliminates the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on a patient. If a person is able to pull their face and neck back a little bit, they are likely good candidates for a facelift as opposed to having filers. The final result of a facelift is a more youthful look to a person. It should be noted that a facelift can be combined with fillers or Botox to augment the final results. While a facelift does improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles, it doesn’t eliminate them so patients can use fillers to provide a more rejuvenated look.
  • Botox and Fillers – If a patient is not looking to undergo surgery due to money concerns or they don’t have the available time to take off work for recovery, Botox and fillers are a good option. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there was a 2\\% increase in the use of Botox last year. On the other hand, the use of facial fillers was up by 3\\% last year. The increased popularity of fillers means patients can receive the treatment at the office of a doctor as well as businesses such as medical spas. With so many options to receive Botox and fillers, patients should do proper research and make sure their practitioner of choice is experienced in providing these services to patients. Fillers and Botox can provide natural looking results that add volume to the face as well as smooth out Crow’s feet, wrinkles and forehead lines.
  • Brazilian butt lift (BBL) – Patients looking to increase the size of their booty use a BBL to achieve the results they desire. A BBL involves removing fat from the hips or the abdomen via liposuction. The fat that is removed from these areas is purified and injected into the buttocks to provide volume and a better contour and shape.
  • Tummy Tuck – The extra bulge around the belly is not a welcome sight for many patients. A tummy tuck, AKA abdominoplasty, makes the abdomen firmer and thinner. An incision is made from hip to hip and it goes through the groin and into the pubic area. Extra skin and fat is removed and then the muscles are stitched back together. The skin and fat is usually removed all across the lower abdomen although it can be done on the bottom of the abdomen with no work performed on the muscles.
  • Breast Augmentation – The number one choice when it comes to cosmetic surgery is breast augmentation. Patients can have saline or silicone implants placed to add size and shape to the breasts. In addition, breast augmentation can help eliminate a saggy appearance to the breasts and make them more youthful in appearance.
