Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

While some people might not have seen this procedure in person, there is a good chance that most patients have heard the phrase “liquid nose job” AKA a nonsurgical nose job. This procedure is able to change the size or shape of the nose without having to undergo a surgical rhinoplasty procedure.

A liquid nose job can provide dramatic results for patients at a much lower price than surgical rhinoplasty. In addition, a liquid nose job has no downtime after the treatment and there is little to no pain for patients.

Doctors Warn Patients about Nonsurgical Nose Jobs

While this treatment might seem like an easy way to attain the desired changes in the look of the nose, there are some doctors warning patients that it isn’t the miracle cure being shown by the media. In particular, these doctors credit social media with making the treatment such a popular choice.

They claim that selfies have caused an increase in the number of surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic facial procedures being performed on the nose. These doctors say that people are now much more self-conscious about their appearance thanks to the number of selfies they take on a daily basis. The fact that they are more aware of how they look makes them try and correct what they see as imperfections in the look of their nose.

How is a Liquid Nose Job Performed?

In order to perform a liquid nose job, doctors use fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane to fill-in areas of the nose that have some sort of structural deficiency. The filler can camouflage imperfections that are visible to others such as a dorsal hump. The filler can make the dorsum have a straighter appearance.

Limitations of a Liquid Nose Job

While it is understandable that some patients do not want to go under the knife to achieve the desired change in their nose, these patients do need to understand that a liquid nose job is a not a permanent solution.

In general, the results of a nonsurgical nose job will last anywhere from six months to a year depending on the type of filler used, the area where the filler was injected and the amount of filler used to achieve the desired results.

There is also a concern about too much use of the filler because the filler will spread since it is a gel as opposed to a solid material. As the use of the filler continues, the repeated injections with a needle can cause the treated area to suffer from inflammation. In addition, the actual filler can cause an inflammatory reaction. As these conditions happen to patients, there can be a thickening of the soft tissue of the nose as well as a bulky and wider appearance to the nose.

There is also a limitation to the actual results that can be achieved with a liquid nose job. Even if the “before and after” photos viewed by a patient are posted by a doctor, patient should be aware that the photos might be enhanced using good lighting and Photoshop. These photo tricks and hacks are used to try and make the actual results look even more dramatic to others. For example, a doctor might post a nose that looks smaller than the “before” photo. A nose cannot be made smaller by adding material to it so the “after” photo might be more of an optical illusion that occurred from changing the shape of the nose.

The cost of choosing a nonsurgical solution might be longer in the long run. Since a liquid nose job is not a permanent solution, there will be a need for maintenance treatments and follow-up injections. The cost of having fillers injected over a long period of time can add up to cost even more than the price of a single surgical rhinoplasty procedure.

The solution to achieving the desired results might be a reduction of the overall size of the nose and this cannot be accomplished with fillers. The addition of fillers increases the size of the nose so a surgical solution might be necessary to make the desired changes in the appearance of the nose.
