New Face for Carrie Underwood in 2018?

Posted January 08, 2018

Carrie Underwood may be unveiling a new face in 2018. The country singer told her fan club she needed stitches in her face after falling on the steps of her house in November. She also said she is “not quite looking the same.”

She added that “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [Underwood’s husband] Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

Dr. Daniel Y. Maman a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City, told health.com it is hard to tell the extent of an injury simply by the number of stitches. He said “If someone had a short laceration on the eyelid, it might require many extremely fine stitches, whereas a laceration of the same size on the underside of the chin might have two to three stitches.”

Dr. Maman added that physicians in emergency rooms and urgent care facilities are capable of taking care of facial injuries and facial scars. But the results are often better when an experienced plastic surgeon repairs what he describes as a “cosmetically sensitive” wound. According to Dr. Maman, “There are a lot of things we can do in the long-term for scar optimization, but there’s no question that the best scarring results from the best repair in the short-term.”

Underwood told her fans “I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way. And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”
