A Look At Fast Growing Cosmetic Surgeries

When people talk about plastic surgery, they often talk about it as it relates to the upper body. However, some of the most popular procedures from last year focus on the lower body and this includes treatments that are both minimally-invasive and surgical.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the five fastest growing cosmetic surgeries of 2016 were:

  • Lip Reduction (Increase of 283\\\%)
  • Labiaplasty (Increase of 39\\\%)
  • Lower Body Lift (Up 34\\\%)
  • Buttock Augmentation with Fat Grafting (Up 26\\\%)
  • Pectoral Implants (An increase of 25\\\%)

When it comes to minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures, some of the most popular treatments include:

  • Botox procedures increased by 4\\\%
  • Chemical peels were up 4\\\% as well
  • Laser hair removal was down 1\\\%
  • Soft tissue fillers increased by 2\\\%
  • Microdermabrasion procedures increased by 3\\\%

According to Dr. P. Daniel Ward, adjunct associate professor of facial plastic surgery at the University of Utah, the increase in treatments such as fillers and Botox has brought younger demographics to medical offices as these patients look to make a change in their appearance.

Ward noted that many patients are also choosing to use more invasive treatments because the recovery time for the invasive treatments is actually shorter than some cosmetic surgery treatments such as lasers. Ward was quoted as saying “We are going back to the roots with more advanced techniques.”

It remains to be seen if the cosmetic surgery trends of 2016 stay at the top of the list or if there will be different treatments that take the top spot among patients at the end of 2017.
