Decision of plastic surgery by Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda is known for being one of the best actresses of her generation. She is also known for speaking her mind and being an outspoken critic on topics ranging from the film industry to the government to plastic surgery.

She is also the recent subject of an HBO documentary, “Jane Fonda in Five Acts”. One of the topics discussed in the documentary is the plastic surgery work she has undergone over the years.

How does Jane Fonda Feel About her Plastic Surgeries?

The best way to describe Jane Fonda’s feelings about having plastic surgery over the years is that she is not proud of the fact that she made a change in her appearance.

In the HBO documentary, Fonda says “I’m glad I look good for my age, but I’ve had plastic surgery. I’m not going to lie about that.” She also said that “on one level, I hate the fact that I’ve had the need to alter myself physically to feel that I’m OK. I wish I wasn’t like that. I love older faces. I love lived-in faces. I loved Vanessa Redgrave’s face. I was I was braver. But I am what I am.”

She also shares the fact that she got plastic surgery around her eyes and jawline because she was “tired of looking tired when I wasn’t.”

While she is not proud of the fact that she had plastic surgery, Fonda does feel that she bought herself another decade of acting time.

Not the First Time Jane has Discussed Plastic Surgery

Fonda has admitted to having work performed on her jaw as well as treatments to get rid of wrinkles. Back in 2011, she told Harper’s Bazaar, that she is vain and self-conscious about “loose flesh”. She told the magazine that “I was taught by my father that how I looked was all that mattered. He was a good man and I was mad for him but he sent messages to me that fathers should not send. Unless you look perfect, you’re not going to be loved.”

Jane is known for her love of exercise but these workout habits were the result of her body image issues including bulimia and anorexia. In 2011, she said “I wasn’t very happy from, I would say, puberty to 50? It took me a long time. It was in my 40s, and if you suffer from bulimia, the older you get, the worse it gets. It takes longer to recover from a bout. I had a career. I was winning awards, I was supporting nonprofits, I had a family. I had to make a choice: I live or I die.”

As mentioned above, Fonda got tired of always looking tired so she had the bags removed from under her eyes and had any loose skin under her chin removed.  When she was walking down the street, she didn’t like looking in a window and seeing a tired looking person staring back at her.

Fonda feels that Age is an Attitude

Besides having plastic surgery to maintain her youthful appearance, Fonda also credits her mental attitude with helping her not look or feel her age. For example, she says people should stand up straight and have good posture. Fonda feels that it is “a whole different thing” when she makes sure to have good posture. She also says that the age of a person is less chronological and more of the attitude of how a person approaches his or her actual age.

Jane Fonda is not the first Hollywood celebrity to have plastic surgery to maintain a youthful appearance and she certainly will not be the last movie star to have plastic surgery. However, she is a rare Hollywood celebrity that is not afraid to talk about the procedures she has undergone in the past. The fact that she does not hide having plastic surgery in the past, and does not conceal being disappointed that she had procedures, makes her stand out from the Hollywood crowd. It remains to be seen if her days of plastic surgery are over or if she will find a new reason to rejuvenate her appearance through plastic surgery.
