Naya Rivera, Glee actress experiences female hair loss after pregnancy

Best known for her role on the television show “Glee”, 30-year-old actress Naya Rivera has been involved in real life female hair loss drama following the birth of her son.

Rivera gave birth to her son, Josey, in 2015. After the baby was born, the actress noticed her hair starting to thin. Naya also noticed she wasn’t alone as many of her friends were also suffering from hair loss after their pregnancies. In an interview posted on elle.com, Rivera said:

“There’s a real post-partum hair-thinning issue, and nobody talks about it because women are embarrassed to admit they’re losing their hair.”

She went on to say that the area around her scalp was thinning and breaking thanks to the change in her hormones from breastfeeding, and then not breastfeeding, as well as the stress of the actual birth process.  She also experienced some hair loss during the filming of “Glee”. Her character was a cheerleader which required the actress to wear her hair in a tight ponytail for up to 16 hours per day. The makeup people on set would spray her hair all day with hairspray which resulted in her hair looking like it was burned and her scalp becoming really dry thanks to the heat from styling her hairdo.

When addressing the hair issue after her son was born, Rivera added blonde highlights in an effort to boost her confidence. Instead, she said the problem became worse after the highlights. In an attempt to fix the issue, Rivera used a variety of items to try and get the fullness of her hair to return including prenatal vitamins and carrot seed oil. She also used hair extensions to hide her hair loss during public appearances and red carpet events.

Rivera eventually got her “hair groove back” by using Nioxin hair products after getting advice from friends who had previously used the product. In fact, she was so happy with the results from NIOXIN that she has signed on as a brand ambassador for the company. Rivera wants to help other new mothers, who are suffering from hair loss, find a way to have healthy hair again.

According to Naya, her hair is finally healthy and full again and she is done with the “hair experiment” phase of her life. She is also not in a hurry to cut or dye her locks anytime soon.
