Learn how Rhinoplasty Reduces or Eliminates Bumps in a Nose

The nose is one of the most prominent facial features on the human body. Since it is located in the middle of the face, it is a body part that the eyes often gravitate towards when meeting another person. One of the most common complaints people have about the look of their nose is the appearance of a bump on it. Thankfully, there are a few options that can help eliminate or reduce the size, shape or appearance of a bump on the nose.

Cosmetic Town TV recently took a look at the solutions patients have to choose from when addressing the issue of a bump on the nose:

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty can make a change in the appearance of a bump on the nose through surgical and non-surgical methods. Let’s take a closer look at both medical options:

  • Rhinoplasty – This surgical procedure is also known as a nose job. Rhinoplasty is when the surgeon sculpts the bone and cartilage of the nose in order to achieve the look desired by the patient. In general, rhinoplasty can be performed as either an open or closed surgery. Open rhinoplasty is when the incisions for the surgery are made on the outside of the nose. On the other hand, closed rhinoplasty involves the incisions being made within the nose of the patient. The decision about which technique to use depends on the goals of the patient and the method chosen by the board-certified surgeon that will perform the procedure. Many surgeons like to use the closed technique since it helps the patient to avoid any visible scars on the nose. However, the open technique might be necessary depending on the amount of work to be done and if the area to be treated is located high in the nasal cavity. A skilled and experienced surgeon can create incisions within the contours of the nose using an open rhinoplasty method that works to minimize the appearance of scars as much as possible.
  • Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty – Unlike the surgical method discussed above, non-surgical rhinoplasty changes the shape and appearance of the nose through the use of dermal fillers. This method is also commonly called a “non-surgical nose job” since it is a minimally invasive procedure. It is a good option for patients that want to make a change in the appearance of their nose but they are not sure if they want to commit to having a surgical procedure.  It is a good method for someone with a bump on the nose but it will not give the same dramatic results provided by a surgical rhinoplasty procedure. A needle is used to inject dermal filler under the skin of the patient. The filler can then be molded into shape after the injections are placed in the targeted area of the nose. Both temporary and permanent fillers can be used to address a bump on the nose. It should be noted that temporary fillers will eventually be absorbed by the body. On the other hand, permanent fillers cannot be absorbed and they stay in place for many years. Common fillers that are used include Radiesse (lasts for about 12 months), Voluma (the results are visible for 12-24 months) and Bellafill (this is considered to be permanent filler as the results can last for 10 years or more).

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

The cost of rhinoplasty depends on the technique performed, the amount of work that needs to be done, the skill level of the surgeon, any fees charged by the doctor or the facility and the geographic location of the procedure. Surgical rhinoplasty costs anywhere from $5000-$13,000 while non-surgical rhinoplasty is anywhere from $700-$2500.

How Long does the Results Last?

It can take up to a year for the results of surgical rhinoplasty to become visible to others thanks to swelling and bruising. Once the results are visible, they should be permanent as long as the patient does not suffer any further damage or trauma to the nose.

The results of non-surgical rhinoplasty can be seen immediately since there is very little bruising or swelling after the treatment. As mentioned above, the results of non-surgical rhinoplasty can last anywhere from 12 months to 10 years. Patients should be aware of the fact that they will need to have a follow-up procedure at some point if they decide to have a non-surgical treatment.

Patients that are interested in cosmetic procedures that can fix a bump on the nose can call their doctor of choice and schedule a consultation appointment. The doctor will examine the patient and make sure the person is in good enough health to have a cosmetic procedure. In addition, the doctor will listen to the patient and answer any questions or concerns about the procedure. Once the doctor and the patient are on the same page about the final results that can be achieved, the cosmetic procedure for the nose can be scheduled.
