Discover the First Plastic Surgery Center that Caters to Men

Cosmetic surgery centers that only caters to men

There are times when a guy just wants a chance to “be a guy”. In the past, this has typically involved a visit to a hardware store, a gym or even a night out with friends for a beer or two.

This perception might be changing in the future. There is now a place in New York City where men can go to receive plastic surgery as well as non-invasive procedures such as Botox. The name of the facility is The Club House and it is believed to be the first and, so far, only one of its kind in the United States.

The Club House was founded by Dr. Norman Rowe, a New York City plastic surgeon. Dr. Rowe says the facility was designed by men and is intended to fill the need for guys to have a place they can visit for plastic surgery while still feeling comfortable about the decision.

In an interview with “Good Morning America”, Dr. Rowe said there are some things men would rather keep private. Whether they are on the phone or in their office, many men want to be discreet about having a procedure to rejuvenate their appearance or make a change to a certain body part. For this reason, the “all guys” facility was designed in order for men to feel more comfortable.

Cosmetic Town News reached out to Dr. Brent Moelleken, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, to get his opinion on “all male” plastic surgery centers. We asked Dr. Moelleken if there should be centers that cater exclusively to men. His reply was a simple “Why not???” He then added “men are now much more aware of the availability and benefits of plastic surgery. Sometimes, their motivation is different. Their desire to have plastic surgery might be more business related and is an effort to appear young, hip, current and informed. Many decisions about hiring are being made by young entrepreneurs, casting directors and producers. While ageism is bad, it is still very present. Younger people are, rightly or wrongly, perceived as being harder working, less entitled and having fresher ideas.”

When it comes to the number of patients that Rowe sees in his practice, he estimates that 20\\%-25\\% are men. This is a large number when compared to a national average of about 10\\%. In addition, about 80\\% of the inquiries he receives from male patients happen between 1AM and 4AM. Finally, most of the procedures that the men undergo take place before 10AM or after 7PM. Rowe says this is yet another way that male patients differ from female patients. Female patients tend to make appointments that will happen during regular business hours. Plus, female patients tend to come to the office in a regular manner throughout the day. (His female patients are seen in his second office that is near the male facility.)

Visitors to The Club House are greeted by bamboo wallpaper, a small bar, a shoeshine stand, a fireplace and a poker table. The televisions in the building show ESPN and financial news while hip hop from the 1990s is regularly played on the sound system.

Dr. Rowe says he designed The Club House so men would feel comfortable when contacting the office about having a plastic surgery procedure. He hopes that any success enjoyed by The Club House helps to get rid of any shame associated with the idea of male plastic surgery.

Dr. Rowe told ABC that, in around 20 years or less, he hopes any stigma associated with male plastic surgery goes away. He also hopes that a place like The Club House won’t be needed in the future. Until that time happens, Dr. Rowe feels he is providing a necessary service. He knows that the need is there thanks to the number of patients calling The Club House and also using its services. While he waits for facilities like The Club House to not be needed in the future, he will be there providing the services desired by male patients.

When asked if men are becoming more open to the idea of undergoing plastic surgery, Dr. Moelleken said, “They are much more open. In general, women have more plastic surgery but men are catching up fast! Youth and a natural, rested appearance look good on both sexes!”
