Was the Mystery of Donald Trump’s Hair Solved?

Posted January 10, 2018

President Donald Trump is frequently in the news for his politics as well as his appearance. His signature hairdo often trends on social media as a source of mockery. Over the years, many people have suspected him of undergoing a hair transplant. A new book reveals that his own daughter, Ivanka Trump, makes fun of his hair as well.

According to the recently released book, “Fire and Fury: Inside Trump’s White House”, Ivanka has talked about the hairdo for years. She even allegedly revealed Trump has undergone scalp reduction surgery to preserve his thinning hair.

According to a portion of the book printed in New York Magazine, “She treated her father with a degree of detachment, even irony, going so far as to make fun of his comb-over to others. She often described the mechanics behind it to friends: an absolutely clean pate—a contained island after scalp-reduction surgery—surrounded by a furry circle of hair around the sides and front, from which all ends are drawn up to meet in the center and then swept back and secured by a stiffening spray.”

For those unfamiliar with the procedure, it’s performed by removing the bald part of the scalp at the top or crown of the head and sewing together the edges of the nearby, hair-filled skin.

New York facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Benjamin Paul, doesn’t believe Trump had traditional scalp-reduction surgery. "It is plausible he had a rotational flap, called a Juri Flap, where the side hair is rotated toward the central hairline." Dr. Paul added. "One concern with a Juri flap is that the hair exits in a very unnatural direction, though from these hairs, hair extensions can be woven as well as transplants can be placed. This would explain the famously unnatural direction and pattern of his hair."
