Data Breach Hits London Cosmetic Surgery Clinic

Posted October 27, 2017

A London cosmetic surgery clinic is making a public apology after reports surfaced that hackers stole sensitive data from the clinic. The stolen data includes photos of client body parts.

The clinic, London Bridge Plastic Surgery (LBPS), reported that their IT experts, as well as the police, discovered evidence that a cyber-attack resulted in the data breach.

The alleged hackers, who operate under the name “Dark Overlord”, say the info they uncovered includes names and photos of patients including members of the royal family.

The hackers sent The Daily Beast website photos they claim are operations performed at LBPS. When describing the photos, The Daily Beast said “Many are highly graphic and close-up, showing surgery on male and female genitalia. Others show apparent patients’ bodies post-operation, and some include faces.” The Daily Beast has conducted investigations on their own and said that the images appear to be genuine.

While LBPS has confirmed that is was hit by a cyber-attack, they also say they took immediate measures to block the attack as well as protect patient information. However, they were not able to block the attack in time to prevent the data from being stolen.

A spokesman for the clinic would not make any further comments due to the ongoing police investigation.
