Beverly Hills Anesthesiologist Charged in Murder of Patient

Posted December 18, 2017

While plastic surgery is commonly performed in the United States, patients need to do research before choosing a surgeon. This is true even when visiting doctors in Beverly Hills as an anesthesiologist recently pleaded not guilty in a case involving the death of a 71-year-old plastic surgery patient.

Stephen Kyosung Kim, 53, has been charged in the death of Dr. Mark Greenspan, back in September. Kim pleaded not guilty to a single count of murder last week in Los Angeles Superior Court but he remains free on bail. His next hearing is scheduled for January 25th.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Kim allegedly administered medicine in order to sedate Greenspan as part of his job at Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery Center in Beverly Hills.

Kim is accused of injecting himself with an unknown drug during the surgical procedure. It is also alleged that he gave Greenspan a lethal dose of Demerol while Greenspan was waiting in a recovery room. The D.A. says Greenspan went into cardiac arrest and died not long after being administered the Demerol dose.

As reported by CBS Los Angeles, Linda Resnick, the sister of Greenspan, said, "He loved what he did and so many of his patients are going to miss him. He worked for 38 years [at seven different offices] in Southern California." She also believes that “justice will prevail.”
