A Spice Girl Writes a Letter to Her Younger Self

Posted February 24, 2017

The Spice Girls were known for girl power and outrageous fashion during their time as one of the biggest pop groups in the world. One member of the group, Victoria Beckham AKA Posh Spice, has also been known throughout the years for changes in her breast appearance. It’s a subject she addressed in a letter written to her 18-year-old self in a recent issue of British Vogue.

The former pop star, and current Mrs. David Beckham, spent many years claiming the look of her body was “completely natural” even though the change in the size of her breasts was obvious. When she first rose to fame, her breast size was a cup size A. Her first enhancement came after the birth of her son in 1999 which took her up to a size 34D. According to her biographer, Andrew Morton, this surgery cost her over $12,000. Beckham didn’t stop there as she underwent a second breast enhancement in 2006 which took her up to a size 34DD.

She eventually confessed to going under the knife to get implants but she also had them removed at a later date. Her breast size has gone from almost flat-chested to, as Beckham herself called them “torpedo bazookas”, to a smaller but perky size. When her breasts were at their biggest level, Beckham said she often wore dresses where her breasts were “up around my neck again”.

The former member of the Spice Girls discussed this topic in the open letter to herself. When writing about her plastic surgery, Beckham said “I should probably say, don’t mess with your boobs.” She also went on to say “All those years I denied it – stupid. A sign of insecurity. Just celebrate what you’ve got.”

Beckham also told her teenage self to not worry so much and to embrace her imperfections. A list of subjects covered in the article includes acne, hair, weight and wearing make-up. The current fashion designer is being praised for addressing these issues in the magazine. The fact that she can honestly discuss her adventures with breast implants is seen as a positive by those worried about the influence celebrities have on younger people who follow their styles and cosmetic surgeries on social media.
