Brazilian Butt Lift Explained

Posted November 23, 2015

One area of the body that is a big topic of interest is the booty area. Some people are lucky enough to maintain the great shape and size of their buttocks through a combination of genetics and exercise.  Others need some extra help to achieve the bountiful backside they desire. One of the most popular procedures to achieve a beautiful butt is a Brazilian butt lift (BBL). A BBL is a specialized butt augmentation procedure that uses fat from the patient to augment the buttocks. Excess fat is removed from the abdomen, thighs or hips, via liposuction, and then strategically injected into the targeted area. The procedure addresses a variety of concerns when it comes to the buttocks including:

Flat and sagging buttocks

A buttocks area that is too small to make the patient happy

Asymmetrical buttocks

Buttocks that have changed shape due to a massive weight loss on the part of the patient

Brazilian Butt Lift Ideal Candidates

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for a BBL procedure. Ideal candidates for a Brazilian butt lift are:

Patients with a good skin tone around the hips and butt

Sufficient fat deposits in areas of the body for transfer to the butt

Free of bleeding disorders, heart diseases or any other medical condition that can impair the procedure in any way

A person that wants to improve the curve of the hip and the rear end and also has a desire to improve the shape of each individual buttock.

Patients that want to reduce fat deposits at the hips, thighs or abdomen and also improve the body's overall proportions to improve the curvature of the lower body

Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Traditional Butt Lift

A major factor that distinguishes a Brazilian butt lift from a traditional butt lift is that a BBL doesn't require the use of implants. BBL makes use of excess fat from other parts of the body. In cases where the patient doesn't have enough fat to harvest for fat grafting, buttock implants are the obvious choice. Buttock implants may be the way to go for some patients but buttock implants can also look and feel less natural in comparison to a Brazilian butt lift. A Brazilian butt lift is not a traditional lift procedure so it does not deal with excess skin on the butt. If patients want to handle excess and loose skin on the butt, a buttock lift surgery is a preferable option.

Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure, Recovery and Price

In order to perform a BBL, a surgeon will take fat from other parts of the body. The fat is then purified and injected back into the body. In many cases, the surgeon will harvest the fat from two different areas of the body. This is done to make sure there is enough fat to perform the procedure as well as provide symmetry to the body after harvesting the fat. The fat is removed through the use of liposuction and the liposuction also contours the area around the buttocks. After the fat is purified and injected into the area around the buttocks, the result is a booty that looks rounder, lifted and fuller. The final results should be long lasting if the fat is harvested, processed and injected back into the body correctly.

Recovery after a Brazilian butt lift is a gradual process like any other surgical procedure. Patients should refrain from sitting directly on the butt for the first few weeks after the procedure. A special pillow to sit on is usually provided by the clinic. Patients should expect some bruising and pain for a few weeks after the procedure. There might be some loss of sensation in the treated area but this is only a temporary condition. Any swelling might last for several months as the body heals and changes to reflect the final results. As mentioned above, the final results are long lasting and can be considered permanent.

The overall price of a BBL differs across the country and the final price depends on the area of the country in which the patient resides and any fees charged by the doctor or the facility. The average price for a Brazilian butt lift is $2450-$10,425.

Consult with a Board-Certified Brazilian Butt Lift Doctor

As with any surgical procedure, patients should consult with a board certified physician before undergoing their treatment of choice. An experienced and trained doctor can examine a patient and take their medical history into account before making a final decision on whether or not the person is a viable candidate for a BBL. Once it has been decided that the patient is a viable candidate for the surgery, the doctor can walk the patient through the necessary steps to achieve the results desired by undergoing a Brazilian butt lift. It is important that the doctor set realistic expectations for the final results as some patients desire results that will be considered to be too large and unnatural in appearance.
