Trendy Plastic Surgeries for Men

Posted November 19, 2015

When it comes to cosmetic surgery, people usually think of women getting Botox, breast augmentation, buttock implants or liposuction. Although that might have been true before, men are also getting in on the action these days.

In the world of plastic surgery, marketing is king and male cosmetic procedures are no different. There’s a wide variety of procedures with trendy marketing names that include Forbes face lift or hi-def liposuction. Most of these are variations of existing plastic surgery procedures tailored for male patients. This means certain precautions are made to avoid accidental feminization of the features which is a big no-no in male plastic surgery. So let’s find out what some of these procedures are all about and why men are clamoring for them.

Top Male Procedures

Currently, the most popular surgical plastic surgeries for men are rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, liposuction, gynecomastia and facelift. Minimally invasive procedures include Botox, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and soft tissue fillers. But the buck doesn’t stop there. As stated previously, there are niche procedures specifically tailored for aesthetically concerned men.

Pectoral implants are popular among male models and business professionals who are just looking for more definition on the chest but don’t have the time to develop the muscles. In fact, muscular implants in general have seen a rise in demand with male models like Justin Jedlica (the human Ken Doll) getting implants for his biceps, shoulder, abs and back.

Gynecomastia, or male breast reduction is popular mainly among bodybuilders. This is due to the fact that one major side effect of performance enhancing drugs like steroids is that they cause lactation and fatty tissues to actually form on the chest. These can look similar to female breasts if left unchecked.

High-def liposuction is for men who are already fit but looking for that extra “umph” to get the shredded look. The procedure is designed to bring out more muscular definition by targeting the deeper layers of fat in the body. This liposuction technique is perfect to bring out the abs, pecs and gluteal muscles.

The Forbes Facelift is geared towards older middle aged men who are little more conscious about the visual signs of aging than your average male. A typical patient would be a CEO or board member and are usually at the top of their carrier. A more conservative approach compared to regular facelifts, this procedure is designed to actually leave a few wrinkles untouched to achieve a graceful aging look.

There is also a counterpart for Mommy Makeovers called Daddy Do-Overs. Just like a lot of things in plastic surgery, the name for this procedure is clearly a marketing tactic. A typical Daddy Do-Over procedure encompasses jawline recontouring, liposuction and an eye lift, and is geared towards office working middle-aged men who are married with kids and have put on about 20 pounds or so.

It is interesting to see that the recent surge in male plastic surgery procedures is a direct result of society putting more importance on individual appearance more than ever before. Man is no longer judged only by his talents, integrity, strength and honor. He is now also judged by his looks. This is truly an interesting phase in society as never before has there been this much emphasis put on what the ideal male aesthetic should be. What will become of masculinity as society continues down this path? Will men have their own blow dryers and manicure products 20-50 years from now? Whatever the future holds, you can be sure that plastic surgery spin-off procedures like the ones mentioned here will only increase in number.
